| ->> I know this topic has been posted in the past. But I was wondering if anyone has ever used Wells Fargo for insurance? And if so, what are your thoughts? |

->> I am also wondering about insurance, I had a policy that just expired through Photo.net and their insurance provider Willis Insurance. I was wondering if anyone else used the discounted photography insurance through photo.net.
I haven't had a claim so I can't say much about them, anyone here use them?
Any suggestions on who to use, I searched the board some of the messages were over a year old so I was looking for some recent experience with photography insurance providers. I have about $30,000 in camera gear lighting and computer equipment to insure against accidental damage or theft.
Any thoughts? I'd also be interested in hearing about the Wells Fargo Insurance. Thanks |

->> I have been researching what exactly insurance companies mean by replacement. I insure my gear for replacement with new gear but the insurance company is only going to replace my gear with used gear that is equal in value.
As far as equipment goes, that if very subjective. Take a Canon Mark III for example. What is equal to them may not be close to replacing what I had. So does anyone really replace with new. My mistake is having insurance for the total amount of new gear. If they are replacing only equal value then I need to insure for a lot less value to my gear. What have others found out and what companies insure real new replacement if any?
I have State Farm but have never made a claim.

| ->> Wesley, great point about replacement and how much value will the insurance company place on the equipment. |

->> I use http://www.tcpinsurance.com/ they are the best!
They insure for new replacements; meaning, if you shoot with a model that is no longer being made they will give you the new model. ie; Canon 1dMKIIn will be replaced with a Canon 1D MKIV. I asked this question 20 different ways and confirmed it. |

->> +1 for Tom C. Pickard
LIke Phil said, they will insure for replacement cost. I also asked 184 different ways, referenced a few Sportsshooter threads to make sure they knew what I was talking about and everything checked out. |

->> Regarding TCP, I have used them for about five years now. I've had one claim that was paid expediently and painlessly. I asked them a question about used gear I had bought and since sold. The way they explained their policy to me is they cover for the amount you declare the value to be - for instance if you buy a used Mk III for $2500 you can insure it for $5100. If it gets stolen you will get a check for $5100 minus your deductible. The downside is your premiums are based on the total amount of value you claim so before you go saying that old 1D is worth $80,000 you might want to check out how much you'll be paying every month.

| ->> I use Marsh through PPA. $100 deductible, they pay what you tell them it is worth. Claims paid reasonably quickly. No rate hike after 2 big claims in 2 years. |

| ->> I had the insurance through photo.net a few years back. As I remember, it was really low cost. I went to photo.net today, and I don't see a link to renew, though. I sent an email to their admin to see if they still offer the program. The only downside to that policy was that it stated for a covered loss there must be signs of "forced entry" and a police report filed. I asked them what if you bolted your gear bag/case with a chain, they cut the chain and took it all with them? They responded they would take that into account, but I was always worried about something like that. I also asked what if your gear is in the back of an unlocked room and is stolen. The guy said not covered, and asked me, "You wouldn't leave $10,000 laying around- why would you leave $10,000 worth of gear just laying around?" |
