Anyone having problems with Highschoolsports.net ?
Eric Canha, Photographer

->> Anyone here having issues with the Highschoolsports.net website? I've been trying to get into my account for over a week. I can't get in to either upload new images or delete what is already there. I've call their support number 3 times and left messages, as well as sending email through their site AND their parent site. The BIGGEST farce is that the claim 24/7 support but NEVER have anyone to answer the phones.

Anyone have a contact or a direct number? Feel free to email me privately if you don't want to put an address or phone number out here in the open.

->> @Geoffrey The new layout and ALL the new coding is AWFUL. Must have been done by a GWC (Guy With Computer) as opposed to a true web designer. Most of the pages have coding errors and in some cases they just pull up the Cold Fusion error messages. Pitiful for a site that makes the claims that they do.

@Clay same here. The upload button just takes you to the signup page. Nothing in my inbox from you. Just an FYI if you tried to send me something.

@Louis I started posting images last year. For no other reason than the would show up on both schools 'pages' and drive traffic back to us.

Mike the [BUY] button just forwards the viewer to the poster's site. No splits or other financial burdens. If you hit the buy button on one of my photos you are taken to my site's front page.

But now the photos are not right in the face of the view. It's like they have to intentionally go looking for them and I bet most viewers have no idea.

->> I can still sign in, but can't seem to find anyway to upload pictures anymore. I've used the site for the last 3 years as a way to drive traffic to my site and will do that. I use StatCounter to watch and monitor my sites traffic and I always get a lot of referring link from HSS after posting a gallery there. It helps me reach schools that are out of my general area. I'm wondering if they outgrew their current setup and are trying to expand their servers and infrastructure. The site seems to be get slower and like you've found out some things aren't working. One thing that I've liked about the site, especially for spring sports, is that you can sign up for email notifications if an event is canceled. Saves a trip to a worthless trip to a school. Hopefully they get everything up and running at full strength soon.

->> Okay just wanted to update everyone..... As of this morning the site's upload option is back online. I'm uploading now and will see if the images actually go live. Funny thing is that the site says that photos are posted once approved by management and the school's AD...... I asked one AD how it was that he was approving galleries all hours of the day. He didn't have a clue what I was talking about.

I'm still waiting for a call back on the 4 or 5 messages that I left on their voice mail and for that matter the ones that I left for the contacts that we emailed to me off list.

Sadly while the site may be up but the ENTIRE support section/staff are MIA.

->> Latest wrinkle on the HSS site.

Over the last week I've had 11 galleries declined. I also heard from 4 others that their galleries were being declined including a fellow member here this morning. After being declined almost a dozen times I uploaded one of the galleries without my watermark and had the gallery approved that same day. So it would appear that HSS will not accept watermarked galleries.

For me that put a fork in the HSS saga. HSS absolutely will not respond to emails or telephone calls. Last week I called their parent company and managed to get someone on the phone. To say that the person was unaware of how HSS worked would be an understatement. The call ended with the rep offering to look into the issue and call me back. Considering that I'm still waiting for replies to calls and emails from 3 years ago I won't hold my breath.

If you ARE contributing un-watermarked images to the site I would strongly suggest that you take a look at the TOS. It may make you change your mind.

I had never considered uploading images ... my shopping cart gets enough traffic on it's own ... from what you are sharing Eric ... glad I didn't bother ...

->> Butch, it used to be pretty good. That was before they did the major redesign and upgrade. Images were on the front page with the schedule. Made it real easy for schools I don't normally cover to see my work and move a little traffic my way.

One major reason I posted images with watermarks there was I knew it was run by Gannett and USA Today, so they couldn't just use the images when they felt like it. Now it looks as though they are policing image submits a little more an I feel it will only hurt them in the long run.

Updates have been pretty good here, I got the word some games were canceled on my way to the event, many times before I leave. It all depends on the AD, considering I got to a school yesterday and the AD was waiting till race time of a XC race to determine if they would actually run. Made the other school come out, and possibly just head back home. Not sure as I was only there for team shots, and had another event scheduled later.

->> Butch the strength of HSS was that for schools that I didn't shoot on a regular basis I could throw up a gallery and have the traffic driven back to my site. As Geoffrey says the photos used to be front and center and got plenty of attention.

That's all in the past, now you have to go hunting for the photos. Users who just jump on to see what time a game is starting never see the photos. I've begun re-tooling our Facebook presence and will use that to drive traffic. I've logged into the HSS site and deleted the un-watermarked images that I posted as the test set.

If a good chunk of the pro and serious shooters delete content / stop posting content maybe HSS will get the message. Then again given how poorly the site was re-designed (had to been done by a GWC (Guy With Computer)) I'm not sure that they really care. The big knee slapper is that if you go over to the Schedule Star site (their parent site) you are told that support is 24/7.... ummmmm an answering machine is NOT 24/7 support. Just sayin.

It's all part of the game, the sands keep shifting and you just have to be willing to change with them.
