| ->> I bought a refurbed mac book pro in June 16 2009. Last week I sent it in with two problems the screen was falling off the cover, and the dvd burner was no longer burning dvds. I got it back in 2 days after I sent it in with a new screen and a new dvd burner. The kicker is no charge. None not even for shipping. Sl when you pc lovers talk about the mac tax, can you imagine hp or dell doing all this for free. Two months and 2 weeks out of warranty. |

| ->> HP sent me a new printer that was out of warranty. So yes I guess I can. |

->> I had Dell replace a screen out of warranty once, and I've had both good and bad experiences with Apple service on the fleet of machines we have at our shop.
Customer service is a huge variable...it really all depends on who you get on a given day. Usually if you push back, even a little, you can get a favorable outcome. That goes for Apple, HP or Dell. |

->> I had a Dell laptop 4 years ago that had a battery recall. The battery would simply not hold a charge for more than 5 minutes of using it. They replaced it with no charge to me, great! Then the new battery I got did the exact same thing within 2 months, and the supervisor on the phone tried to explain battery technology and charge cycles to me, refusing to send me a new battery. I tried to explain that my battery had already been recalled for the same issue and nothing. Then the DVD Drive would only read CD-Rs and burn DVD-Rs. Then the Master Boot Records became corrupted.
I love my iMac. |

->> Mmmh, there are both good and bad things about both. I have had only bad experiences with my Mac goodies, and mostly good with my PC goodies.
I don't think it is a matter of one being better than the other, more like what you are comfortable with. Service varies from place to place. Try to get Apple care here in the Middle East. Almost non-existent.
I am a happy PC user... |

->> Computers are only as good as their weakest components. On the whole Apple use decent components but that hasn't always been the case. Budget priced PCs tend to use budget priced components but PCs in the same price bracket as Macs tend to use solid parts.
You tend to get what you pay for, which in the case of Macs is an operating system that fits nicely with my brain married to components that tend to last the course.
Apple's support has been first class for me, although that is only twice in sixteen years! |

->> Some of us pc lovers make our own. Try that with a mac.

->> I have also had very good experiences with Apple repairs ... my previous laptop had to make two visits for some TLC while under warranty ... it was annoying, but they did a good job addressing the issues .... 10 years later I still own the unit, albeit very outdated it operates as well as it did the day I purchased it ... spanning OS 9 to OS X 10.4.11 ... the ROI on the unit over it's lifespan has been the best of any computer I have ever owned ....
I'm also a fairly competent mechanic ... but I didn't build my own car ... I have also performed minor repairs on my cameras and lenses ... but I would never attempt to build one from scratch .... I am adept at replacing components in my computers (HD, DVD, RAM, etc.) ... but I see no need to build a computer when the machines I prefer to use work so well and fill the requirements I need quite well .... |

->> I've had nothing but good experiences with the Mac Genius crew.
- iPhone 3GS - Screen replaced in under 5 min flat... after it was damaged in the rain - my fault. Replaced w/ no Q's asked.
- iBook - Rebooted and reinstalled OSX without loosing any data
- Macbook Pro - Replaced motherboard in a week after it failed to wake from a sleep.
All 3 issues saved my butt on deadline. $0 out of pocket as well, no applecare / warranties on anything. |
