| ->> FYI, as of today, Adorama had a handful in stock, selling for about $800 less than the price of a new one. Not sure how long they will last, so please don't flame me too hard if they're gone when you get there. |

| ->> Stupid question...Is a refurbished camera a camera that was bad out of the box, sent back to get fixed and then sold at a discount...or is it a returned customers camera that the dealer sends back to be cleaned/fixed but can't be sold as new? |

->> FWIW, Dan, here's a definition I found on eHow.com. Not sure how Adorama categorizes their refurbs, though:
"Refurbished electronics are goods that are shipped back to the manufacturer's production facility for a number of reasons, including physical damage to the component, damaged packaging, retailer overstock, shipping the incorrect model, and even for minor reasons, such as lost manuals or slight blemishes. Often, a refurbished product is not used at all and may have gone back to the factory directly from the storefront.
Factory refurbished products have the same functionality as new products. Upon arriving at the factory, the item is first inspected for flaws, and any complaints about the product are verified by checking and testing. If the product was used prior to being shipped back to the factory, its configuration and any altered settings are changed back to its default values. After the refurbishing process, the products are tested again and go through the same quality control test as do new products. Goods that pass quality control are then shipped back to retailers as factory refurbished products." |

->> I bought one of those refurbs last week. It comes in a different box but has all the original components. The camera looks and feels new and on the bottom plate is a small round sticker indicating "refurbished".
I used it this weekend to shoot HS and college football and it works really well. I matched the settings to my other MkIV. With a card in it, the frame number on the back is in the lower 800's. I don't know if that's a true reading.
Apples to apples. since I"m in NY and pay sales tax, the camera was close to $1000 less than my first MkIV. |

| ->> From what I understand a refurbished is might actually be better then a new item because it has been inspected and tested more thoroughly before it heads back out on the market. |

| ->> I've bought quite a few refurbished bodies and lens... They have always seemed new to me and I've never had any problems with any of them. In fact I had two Mark III that were refurbished... Never had the focusing issue with them... |

->> Ditto Walt's comment. I've never had a bad experience with a refurb.
Woohoo! My Mark IV refurb arrived today! And I've had to sit through THREE long, boring meetings, waiting to go home and play with it! |

->> I've used mine to shoot two college football games now and have been very pleased. No issues, looks and seems to function just like a new one. AF tracking and low-light capabilities are a HUGE improvement over my previous workhorse, a MKIIn.
I got mine at Adorama, so it comes with a one-year Adorama warranty. Given my past experiences with them, I'm comfortable that if something goes bad, they'll make sure I'm happy with the outcome. |
