So this is journalism?

->> Cleveland's local Fox affiliate ran this ridiculous story and re-creation. I rarely watch the Fox network, and their local affiliate even more rarely. They seem to manufacture the news when they can't find anything truly newsworthy.
This story was featured on the Jimmy Fallon show last night. It's sadly hilarious!

I personally like to watch bears climb trees. |

BTW... I've seen bears in my back yard and never once thought to call the news. Now I know I live in a small town but come on. Doing an interview on t.v. cause you saw a bear is almost on the same level as being interviewed for a ufo. |

->> Michael,
When I worked for a daily paper up in Vermont we covered bears once, I managed to actually get one of them in my view finder on one of the stories.
Bears and such were a normal occurrence in the area ... except one walked into the open ambulance bay at a hospital , it did no damage, it just sat down and stayed there for 15 or so minutes & was scared off by a fire truck siren.
The other was when a bear entered a house and the family found evidence that it was up stairs. I managed to get a few shots of the bear running from the house when the game warden fired tear gas into the house.
The oddest for Vermont ... a Sheriff's Deputy that was driving along when a deer somehow managed to get its head through the open window of the patrol car as it was driving around 45mph. The Deputy slammed the breaks and jumped out the car ... but didn't put the car in park, and it ended up rolling down a 30+ foot logging trench.
But the TV stations in the area (there were surprisingly three) at no point created a cardboard deer to reenact the bizarre new story! |

->> The crew was sent out on a story to get images of something that wasn't there. At least they made it entertaining without being misleading. Heck, we're talking about it here.

Thanks so much for the laugh. It may be over a year old, but this is the first time I've seen it. That just cracks me up. |

->> Unprofessional and kind of silly, yes, but certainly not pernicious.
Since this thread was started under the aegis of questionable journalism, I too can cite some recent examples of bad journalism, such as :
- Newsweek’s fabricated story about a Koran being flushed down the toilet by guards in Guantanamo Bay
- Many networks reporting that Himalayan glaciers will disappear by 2035 - a laughable claim that, after being repeated for many years, has very recently been withdrawn
- etc., etc... |
