->> This is truly a sad day in the newspaper industry and a heart-wrenching day for the individuals and their families that this will impact. Today a lot of good shooters, who have worked so hard establishing their careers and many that have families depending on them, and are friends of ours were dealt a raw deal.
My thoughts go out to our colleagues. |

->> The headline for the story about this on Paid Content is "Deseret News Tries A Controlled Burn To Save Itself" http://cnt.to/mfN
Since the D-N's myopic strategy is aimed at preserving the print product, my response is that the wind is blowing toward them.

->> Damn!
How about this quote..
"Some photogs were immediately let go and had their gear, cameras and phones taken before being escorted from the building. "
Escorted from the building, geez. |

->> "Escorted from the building, geez."
That is a pretty typical procedure in the corporate world and sometimes in higher education, Matthew. When I worked at our local university, my boss, the man who hired me was escorted out of his office after his boss terminated him. The company I worked at before that as a photo editor, that was also a common practice in the early 2000's when employees left on an accord other than their own. |

->> When I was laid-off from Yahoo, we were allowed to go back to our desks and take the rest of the day to say goodbye pack our things. There was no escorting.

| ->> So in the SLTrib story the JOA between Deseret and the Trib is mentioned. Is this another case of a paper on the B side, meaning the afternoon publishing side, of the JOA finally closing shop? How is the Trib is said to be considering hiring while the Deseret News is apparently bleeding? |

->> Mark, SOP in corporate America. They don't want someone going ballistic after getting terminated.
I personally think Yahoo has the right approach if it's done properly.
Of course, if you drop the bomb without any forewarning, there's a chance someone will go to their car and pull out a handgun. |
