->> So I am in the market for a used D3 and I have been hunting Craigslist and Ebay for a decent deal. I came across a CL ad for a used D3X for $2800. Well, that would be a great deal, but it is clearly bordering a "Too Good To Be True" deal. Well the cop in me wanted to see and I emailed them.
I got a response from someone claiming to be Debra L. McCray in Omaha, NE who said she had purchased the camera and it was just too much for her so she was selling it. She even added that the transaction would be protected by EBAY and sent through EBAY.
Well, I received an "invoice" that went to SPAM and payment instructions. They wanted me to send money thru Western Union. There is also an EBAY contact number of 1 (888) 774-2910. As if I wasn't already sure it was a scam, the Western Union confirmed it.
Doing a little research, that phone number is associated with a ton of CL scams.
So again, the contact # is 1 (888) 774-2910.
The email address the emails were sent from is ebay@electronics-checkout.com
I haven't heard back from EBAY, but I know any true email from them will be from an @ebay.com mail box.
Buyer beware. The price seemed too good and it was. I just figured I woulld use some of my police skills so that no one would get bamboozled by this BS... |

| ->> There is a barrage of unreal deals on Craiglist and they are all priced at or around $2800.......in Memphis, each day there are Harley Davidsons, high end travel trailers, nice cars and almost every other desired item, all priced at the same $2800....the key is that the contact is usually a @yahoo.com e-mail address....like you say, the price seems "too Good" |

->> LOL
Is that guy still out there???
He's been trying to scam folks with that camera for months!!
The last time I communicated with him, he was listed in Scottsdale, but when I asked to meet face to face he said he was in Austin, then I told him that a good friend of mine is the Chief of Police on a Nearby town, he would be happy to meet him there......
Insert Cricket sounds here.....
Post a link, I would like to see if this is the same guy. |

| ->> Craigslist = meet in person. That's the only way it really works with any measurable success. Too many difficult people are on there anyway (free usage attracts anyone and everything), but you should always be able to call and meet the person w/item before doing any "real" business. Otherwise you're just gambling. |

->> The next time you come across a deal like this that seems to be "too good to be true," copy the entire text of the advertisement and paste it into a Google search with a set of quotation marks before and after the text.
When you do this, Google will look for the advertisement and you might be surprised at how many different cities have the same post. If a post that sounds like a scam is appearing in New York, San Francisco, Detroit, and Miami or other equally far away places then it increases the likelihood of it being a scam.
Now, posting in multiple cities does not ALWAYS mean that it is a scam. I purchased a car from Craigslist that was listed in Peoria, Champaign, and Springfield which are Illinois cities that form a triangle roughly 90 miles long on each side, but I was able to test drive it before I agreed to anything and the advertised price, while a bargain, was NOT so low that it raised suspicion. |

| ->> Oh believe me, while I didn't know for sure it was a scam, I was in the 95% range sure. The cop in me wanted to see though, because I hadn't seen the eBay Secure Transaction thing before. Clearly, the Western Union confirmed it. You have to believe that people have been sucked into this though, so information is power. |
