Tripod and Monpod Usuage Rules

->> I have an event where the rules are "No Tripods on the Field" but those who interpreter the rules have expanded that to mean no tripods and on monopods. I need help to reference other sports rules where monopods are allowed and not tripods. I know I've been in football stadiums where tripods are allowed in the end zone but not on the sidelines. (And yes mainly the tripods were on video cameras) Can anyone cite actually game operation rules, (Stadium, School, Arena or NCAA) which state that? This event hasn't had a lot of people with 400mm f/2.8 at the event at all (it dose tend to lend itself to a lot of wide shots...) and I can't shoot for 3-4 hours at a time with mine without a monopod. I just need to present a case so that myself and others can use a monopod and prove that it poses an insignificant safety risk to those participating in the sport because the equipment either stays with the photographer or will fall to the ground and be not much more that a object laying on the ground and at most be 8 to 12 inches high. I know how to show that point, but would like to reference some other instances.
Thanks in advance

| ->> How about seeking out some photos of NFL, NBA, NCAA Final Four, etc. sidelines showing photographers with monopods? |

->> Tom,
In Minnesota we have no such rules. If you are going to be close to the field you need to be able to move everything on a moment's notice.
Ask them why a monopod (key on MONO meaning one) is the same as a TRIpod. Get an English and Math teacher nearby to explain how Three is not equal to One. (Yes, I'm that asshat). |

->> The only NCAA rules that specifically mention this are for softball (p 67):

In fact, I think you'll find most rules make scant mention of photography at all, much less anything so specific. |
