| ->> am i reading that right? the new 400 2.8 will be lighter? dare i say lighter than a 500? so it's definitely handholdable?! awesome! |

->> "The Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM lens is expected to be available in December for an approximate retail price of $11,000."
"The Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM lens is expected to be available in December for an approximate retail price of $7,000."
"The Canon Extender EF 1.4x III & Canon Extender EF 2x III are expected to be available in December for an approximate retail price of $500 each." |

| ->> The 8-15mm will apparently not be available until January 2011. 5 month lead time from announcement to a product in your hands seems a bit much. |

->> So does this mean that the extenders don't offer and advantage over the current ones with lenses other than the new 300 and 400?
"Each extender also features a newly developed microcomputer that increases AF precision when the extenders are used with a IS Series II EF super-telephoto lens." |

| ->> I could have predicted the new long lenses for all of you with 100% accuracy. I bought a 300mm 2.8L IS two weeks ago. As soon as my account was drained, the writing was on the wall. |

| ->> Those prices Patrick quoted are ridiculous! Us editorial folks are essentially priced out. Sooo Canon, who else do you think uses a 400 f/2.8? |

| ->> I was just informed the current 400 2.8 lists for 11,000 so yes these will come out lower. I do like the new 400 will be 4 pounds lower or so |

->> Garrett, don't sweat those prices just yet. Wait for the official retail prices. Those are just guesses from whoever wrote the article.
I'm hoping this will drop the prices on the IS versions of both the 300 & 400 lens.
Thomas I just bought a 1.4 extender II and they come out with a version III. I'm still happy with my 1.4 II. |

->> All lenses have retail prices. Those prices are always somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000 to 3000 dollars more then the actual selling price.
This is common in the camera business. |

->> For what it's worth, My 1.4x TC II stays married to my 300 f/2.8 NON IS lens (can't find a reason for IS shooting sports but some tell me it's priceless at the long range).
I haven't haven't noticed IQ issues on a Mark III.
But, then again, I'm not fortunate enough to be toting around the latest and greatest Canon glass. I'm sure a straight 400 or 400 IS would prove me very wrong.
But since I, like a lot of us, purchase my own gear - the 300 & 70-200 with an extender and my Mark II (2) and Mark III bodies is about all my budget can afford.
I'd just like to add a Canon equivalent to replace my 28-75 f/2.8 Tamron. It's okay, but surely not in comparison to the 24-70, 16-35 or the 24-105. I'm currently trying to sell/trade the Mark II's for this type of lens addition.
So, I see the new glass coming out as a benefit to me as the prices may start coming down a little on the current 400's. A poor man can only hope... |

| ->> Over here its listed as £11499 !!!! i could swap systems to nikon for £6000-£8000 thanks to the pro deal they have in operation in the uk . Im a huge fan of canon but i don't know anyone who justify spending that kind of money for one lens. |

| ->> thats a silly amount of money and considering you can get a 300 2.8 for around 3500 dollars..... hmmmm doesnt make sense, also will the improvement in IQ be worth the extra 4000 dollars.... hmmm agian, unles you are buying from scratch not replacing, or you need a huge tax write off i think these prices are a little steep, especially considering the amount photographers make is not actually that high and you would need many years to pay that off through your business...im not convinced, the current 300 2.8 is is already a bloody amazing lens... |
