->> Canon cameras have this on the specs; maximum recording time is 12 minutes. What does this mean?
Does it mean you can only record for 12 minutes?
Then what?
I have to admit, I am not familiar with the HDSLRs yet.
thanks,

| ->> Then you have to start a new clip. You can record 12 min per clip. I believe it is actually file size limited. 4gig per clip. So, if you have an 8gig card, you can record two 4gig (12 min) clips. |

->> Because the files are written onto the cards as FAT binaries which are limited to 4GB chunks.
Sometimes you can get longer than 12 min--like 14 or so if your ISO is low and it's a clean, simple scene as it compresses smaller. |

->> Armando, yes, ditto the above. If you're shooting in the lower rez 640X480 mode, you can get 1/2 hour before it shuts down.
As I understand it, this limitation has to do with how the cameras are branded in Europe. Canon builds in this shutoff, as the cameras are technically not video cameras, but still cameras.
Bummer, but that's the way it is at this point. |
