->> I have set up the Drobo S and I have no idea what it is or what I am doing. I thought it automatically started to back up my drives. I don't think it is. It says there is info on it but when I click on the drive there is nothing inside. I'm running a Mac with four internal drives. There are 5 drives in the drobo. Any suggestions for the old man?

->> Robert, you can configure Time Machine on the Mac to use the Drobo as it's backup location. You configure this through: "System Preferences -> Time Machine" and it is easier to do if the Drobo is directly connected (USB or Firewire) than if you're connected over the network.

->> I tried to set it up through Time Machine but it only shows three of my drives there and, of course, the fourth is the one I REALLY want to back up.

->> Robert I know NOTHING about Apple. On my PC I had to install the DROBO desktop and format the volume before windows would 'see' the drive.

->> The only list of drives that Time Machine shows (Change Disk button) should be the list for when you are picking the empty drive to back up onto. Once turned on it will automatically back up all your internal drives that you don't specifically tell it to NOT back up using the "Options" button.

->> Robert call the drobo people time machine will back up and hold everything even after you deleted it. So in reality it will store stuff you no longer want . Soem people use chrono sync others carbon copy cloner. Their are ways to use time machine but do call the drobo people. I am about to do the same thing as my four bay drobo filled up in a year of owning it.
