->> A SportsShooter member, Jane Tyska, has won a settlement against the Oakland School District, whose police chief's squad car struck her while she was videotaping an immigration march in October 2008. A confrontation with the chief ensued, which Tyska also taped. Tyska was then detained, accused of inciting a riot, and her tape confiscated. The tape was later returned to Tyska's employer, the Oakland Tribune. Two months later the chief resigned. Tyska subsequently sued the police chief and the Oakland School District, for violating civil rights laws, and for assault and battery...

->> @Paul,

Sure, we have rotating quarterly meetings in my market (Indianapolis), in which representatives from the daily, tv, police, fire, FBI, and a couple of others meet to talk about issues that have or can come up. I've been a few times over the years, and they're very constructive. Relations aren't perfect, but they are better here between media and police than I've found in other markets.

->> Paul, we have the same set up as Robert does in Indianapolis. I have only attended a couple of the meetings and there had been no issues around those times, so it was more like a meeting for us to get to know each other. We also get a weekly email with the cell/pager of the PIO who is on duty after hours if we ever do have a problem.
