Carts on a plane

| ->> Hey guys, I'm about to do a multi city video shoot and I've been searching through threads about carts like the Multi-Cart and Remin Kart-A-Bags. I've found a lot of good info but what no one seems to mention, is how you get these on the plane? I just purchased the smallest Multi-Cart R2, and though it folds up relatively small, I'm still doubtful that I'll be able to wheel this up to the gate and checking it will mean paying for an additional checked bag. Right now I plan to check a Pelican 1650 for lights, and a large duffel for lightstands/tripod. The camera in it's Petrol bag and a Thinktank laptop bag will get carried on. But, what to do with the cart? Thanks, J.Lee |

->> The cart would need to meet carry on size restrictions and would count as one of your carry-on bags.
It cannot be carried on in addition to a full carry on and a personal item (unless you're flying in business or first class with some airlines, that take a blind eye to those in upper premium cabins) |

->> ...so you'd need to check the cart. Many carts check fine, others work well being stuffed into a cheap nylon bag. I have stuffed carts into the $5 nylon laundry bags you find at Target.
All the bag does is keep it from getting caught on things, but if I recall the Multi-Cart R2 has 4 wheels with a fold down 'long handle' that locks into the down position. Some gaffers to secure the handle and chances are you're OK on the cart being intact, if not, stuff it into a cheap duffel bag that takes up no space and can travel with the rest of your gear. |

->> I routinely check my Multi-Cart R12, I just tape down the handles with a single 6-inch piece of gaffers tape.
To get around baggage fees for doing this, fly Southwest. |

->> Thanks guys. Pretty much confirmed my own conclusions. It was just wishful thinking to keep this video camera & laptop bags off my shoulder to the gate. Maybe I can get the camera in an Airport Security roller....
The clients will be paying for the extra checked bag anyway so I don't know why it bothers me so much to pay the airlines but it does.
OK, so now that I'm checking the cart, I guess I can re-evaluate the size of the cart. The R2 Multi-Cart handles seem a little short for my height, so maybe I'll go a step up to the R6 or R8. |
