Code Replacement - Are any automated NFL Scripts working?

->> Does anyone know of any NFL Code Replacement tools that are working?
I've been using Mike Stone's (and have donated to the cause) with great success.
When I try and download the code replacement files the only records are the team names with no player information. |

->> Thanks for the link.
On Jason's page he doesn't have the NFL listed although I was able to manually change the URL.
http://www.jasonowatson.com/code/nfl/
I tried a few variations and each time I try to create a file I'm presented with an "Internal Error" page.
Were you able to use the tool on his page? |

->> I now have a basic version of my NFL code replacement tool up and running:
http://www.jasonowatson.com/code/nfl
A lot of the features included in my MLB code replacement tool are included here. Some are not (and may be as I have more time to work on this).
Some quick notes:
1) Coaches - right now, just head coaches are included - only one format available (short code / long name). Hope to include OC, DC, etc. later.
2) Rosters - displayed as defined on ESPN.com. Players with no numbers will have "--" listed as their number. Edit and fix your files accordingly.
3) Refs - as defined by http://www.football-refs.com/nfl-referees-by-season/2010-crews/ - code is ref# where # is the ref number
4) Useful codes -- home stadium included, very basic football codes included now
Same disclaimer as other sports:
1) Minimal testing has been done please check your files for accuracy before using.
2) Please feel free to contact me with bugs, ideas, suggestions, typos, etc. - jason@jasonowatson.com
For those that have asked, NCAA Football is next... then NHL... then NBA...
Enjoy,
Jason |

->> Jason, thanks for the work on this.
I really like the "Short code / long name" option.
I would like to suggest when using that option to include the name only in the file as well. Using PM's multiple replacements for a code as a second variable on the same line:
h3 = Arizona Cardinals quarterback Derek Anderson (3)
h3#2 = Derek Anderson
So the entry in the file would be:
h3 [tab] Arizona Cardinals quarterback Derek Anderson (3) [tab] Derek Anderson
Just something to think about.
Thanks again,
AJ |

->> AJ,
Thanks for the fantastic suggestion. I've gone ahead and included this functionality into the NFL rosters (and will update my other sports accordingly). I've made a slight modification to the order of your suggestion (mainly because of my personal preference). Thus when selecting the short code / long name option, the following codes yield the following results:
m32 = Minnesota Vikings running back Toby Gerhart (32)
m32#2 = running back Toby Gerhart (32)
m32#3 = Toby Gerhart
I hope that is okay and helps out.
Thanks,
Jason |

->> Shane - for example, tpc6n would return
Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler (6)
default delimiter that tells PM that a code replacement is coming
t returns the team name
p returns the player's position
c shorthand for Chicago Bears players (tells the code replacement which team this specific number 6 plays for) - you choose this code when setting up the text file - I normally make it as short as possible, and choose the lower case first letter of the team's city
6 input Cutler's jersey number
n returns the jersey number in brackets
ending delimiter that tells PM the code replacement is done |

->> If you are using my code replacement service (http://www.codereplacements.com), there is an option to create codes with "short code / long name" -- this turns off the t, p, n, etc. codes that Mike Stone originally created such that:
c6 = Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler (6)
c6#2 = quarterback Jay Cutler (6)
c6#3 = Jay Cutler
c6#4 = Cutler
If you turn off the short code / long name option, the original behavior is applied:
tpc6n = Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler (6)
pc6n = quarterback Jay Cutler (6)
tc6n = Chicago Bears Jay Cutler (6)
c6n = Jay Cutler (6)
c6 = Jay Cutler
etc., etc., |

->> BTW, SS's unusual Web forum deleted the backslash characters in my post above. How odd.
What should have appeared was (where, of course, the word "backslash" is replaced with the actual keyboard character) :
Shane - for example, backslashtpc6nbackslash would return
Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler (6)
And the backslash character should have appeared before the sentences: "default delimiter that tells PM that a code replacement is coming" and "ending delimiter that tells PM the code replacement is done" |
