->> The European published issues of magazines like Vogue and others are much more edgy than their USA versions. I think the photography is much more imaginative and creative and they are much more inclined to make editorial comment in their stories.
I very seldom look through American Vogue but the French and Italian versions usually have spectacular photography. |

->> In the first link provided, the quick story asked a great question:
"What's your take? Is Italian Vogue making a mockery out of the oil spill, or is it making a powerful and provocative statement to illustrate the damage the spill has caused?"
I'd love to see SS member thoughts on that question.
For me, I think that have certainly decided to make a statement. I don't see it in any way as making fun of a bad situation. The images have a very dark, moody feel. Not something one would want to convey when poking fun. I think that sometimes people can become a little callous to the images of birds and other animals covered in oil and suffering. "Oh, look at that poor bird." ... "what movie do you want to go watch?"
The last image with the model spitting out water is very impactful and I think it really highlights the damage that has been done. Well done if you ask me. We should all be so bold as to use the power of the lens to make a statement like this.

| ->> It's about time a person got covered in crude rather than just fish and birds. |

| ->> Personally I don't consider this as mockery, but more the way Israel wrote. Until now we were seeing birds and fishes covered with oil, now there are people. And for me, that's pretty good message, not mockery. |

| ->> But are we seeing people covered in crude? I don't think we are. It's a fashion magazine and it seems to me they are trying to be edgy and it just kinda comes across as silly(to me). Especially when you see so many images that are similar. I like the photo where she's choking up the water, but really, what are we looking at? ... Then again, this is from my perspective as a journalist, which is probably not the way to view this project. Cause if you do, it's hard to take it seriously. I mean for me at least. |

->> Seems like they're on a slippery slope to me.
But do women really buy clothing based on ads like that? |
