Compact flash card won't mount...

->> Hello again everyone. I have another question that I was hoping you could answer. I searched the message board, but did not find what I was looking for.
I have a 16-gigabyte Lexar CF card that won't mount on my Mac Pro's desktop and when I put it in my 5D-Mark 2, the camera says the card is not formatted. When I try to format the card, it doesn't work.
I was wondering if this card is a lost cause or if anybody has a solution out there I could try. I can't use Image Rescue or Photo Rescue to format the card because I can't get the darn thing to mount on the desktop. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks! |

->> Call Lexar, get an RMA and send it back!! The Card is bad and they "Should" give you a new one!! You will have to send your damaged Card back and they will in turn send you a new card. At least that is what they used to do about 9 years ago when I used to use Lexar and I had a card go bad on me and trust me, I used to send between 3 and 4 cards back every year.
This is one of the main reasons I use Hoodman, I have never had a "New" card got bad. A couple of years ago I got a Second Hand older Hoodman Card from a friend, it was kinda goofy and I called Hoodman, I was told to Smash it with a Hammer and they would send me a new card the same day!! They even replaced a card that was working OK, but they wanted me to have the Latest and Greatest and not an older version of the two cards I had. Now that IS good customer service!! |

->> Haha. Smash it with a hammer. I wish I could have done that with a defective SanDisk card I bought. I had to send it back. The hammer technique seems much more theraputic.
P.S. Just a tip, don't buy cards from eBay. 50% of the time, they will be fake cards, meaning they won't have nearly the speed or capacity that you thought you were paying for. They even package them in the proper boxes with documentation to fool you. |

->> Thanks guys. This is actually the first time I have ever had a CF card go bad on me and I've used Lexar since I started shooting almost 10 years ago so I think I've had pretty good luck.
I'll try your tip Yamil and give Lexar a call. I'm just glad that I was able to download the 15.9gb worth of images off the card before it decided to go bad!! |
