->> Yeah, see I did that and that's why I posted the above link - I looked at the first three on the member index and not 1 football portrait.
Thanks for playing! |

->> Nick,
obviously some members, at least two, did not appreciate your posting that link to the members directory, even if it is easliy found. They have every right as a member to mark your post as inappropriate.
For the record, I did not mark you as inappropriate. |

->> Is it that hard for a bunch of photographers to post the work of other photographers without smart-ass answers to a simple question?
Yes, I know how to use google, bing, etc., I know where the member directory is. I know of photographers like Frakes, Miralle, Seale, Iooss and the like. I also have an extensive library of photo books, which I browse often. I have many a magazine from Sports Illustrated, to PDN to National Geographic.
My intent here was to perhaps plug your own work and show it to the world, plug the work of other photographers, younger, lesser known, or perhaps something as simple as your favorite football portrait.
This way I thought we can point out to other members a fine list of work to inspire us.
Thanks. |

->> Amen Armando! Seems like a bunch here only want to stir it up or are too good to post anything worthwhile...never saw so much negativity as I have lately.
Anyway...here's a link to Dustin Snipes blog. He's always at the top in the SS Clip contest.

->> Seems like the names that always come up when someone asks for portrait advice is Robert Seale, Darren Carrol or Miralle. They're all great shooters, but they (like me) are editorial photographers who do some portraits, some photojournalism, some commercial work....
Nobody every mentions the guys who do ONLY portraits, and are in a league by themselves. May not be sports portraits, but if you want inspiration that will carry over to portraits of athletes, google some of these guys:

I love Seliger's work, I just looked over Alma's http://www.erikalmas.com/ work and it is pretty great. Jeff Riedel too, http://www.jeffriedel.com/home.html

->> I believe Melissa Lyttle did some assignment work portraits for either Tampa Trib or St. Pete Times a while back featuring local high school athlete standouts from Bay Area high schools. What made them memorable is that the athletes' photos were taken around Tampa landmarks or points of interest (i.e. Cuban sandwich shop, merry go roung @ Citrus Park Mall, beaches, etc.). I can't find those images for the life of me, but thought they were very creative in combing the local culture with local football talent.
I know, this isn't a very informative post as A) am 90% sure of the photographer, B) have a 50/50 shot at remembering the publication, C) don't recall specifically if it had to do with football player portraits only or athletes in general, D) date they were taken, or E) All of the Above. LOL - I'm too young to be forgetting these things! |
