Cooperstown Tournament of Champions Coverage?
Jim Pierce, Photographer

->> I am heading out to watch my 12 YO nephew play in the N.A.T.C (National American Tournament of Champions) in cooperstown NY the week of 8/21.

Does anyone know if these games are covered and if so by who? I would like to offer my services for a few games but at the very least want to touch base about covering my nephew and his team.

Don't want to walk on anyones toes and would like to know up front rather than be asked to bring my gear back to the car.

Any information is appreciated.

Jim

->> Jim-

I played in that tournament several years ago and it was certainly covered by the tournament operators. They have an army of kids with 70-200's shooting all the games. I doubt they are going to tell you not to bring your gear, however.

->> Jim,
Being a Cooperstown resident I can tell you that the Dreams Park has been a rather quirky operation since the day they opened. Although I do not know the specifics I can tell you that they do have in-house photographic services to shoot the games and turn a profit. I have heard they can be difficult in terms of restrictions and scheduling of the games and players. However, I can't see any reasonable argument as to why they would not let you shoot pictures of your nephew's games for the team or yourself. Just to let you know there is no coverage of any of the games from the summer by local media. I will be heading back to college on the 25th but let me know if you need anything while you are in town.

->> Just returned from Cooperstown and as a few have said above I had no problems, just had to shoot from the family section and through the fence in some cases.

The best part was the Eastern MA All-stars came home as Tournament Champions!! this is out of 102 teams, played 4 games Thursday and won it with a 2 run walk off HR in the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday night!! They beat 4 California teams so we can play up here in the Northeast!!

If any of you have kids and they get any opportunity to play in a Cooperstown Dreams Park tournament DO IT!!!

It was amazing: 22 LL fields all top notch with lights, 28 or so batting cages, barracks for all teams, mess tents, family tents, you name it and it is spotless!! Everything is done classy and top notch!!

The most unique experience was STARTING a game at 1:15am that ended at 3:40am yes am. Had a rain delay but they played and the field was bone dry!

I am not sure who had more fun me or my nephew!!
