->> I am looking at getting a TC-20E II or III, but haven't used a 2x TC since I owned a D2H. For anyone who has used them on a full frame camera, are the 2x's sharper? Is the TC-20E III that much better than the II?
Thanks |

| ->> Matt, I don't own a TC20E but the usual comments on the 2x TCs that I've read consistently is that they aren't sharp. I have a 1.4x that I use with a 200-400mm on a D3 and a D3s and it's wonderful. |

->> Matt,
I think the best TC that Nikon has is the TC 1.7. VERY sharp. You lose a stop and a half with it, but with the D3S it doesn't matter.

->> The newest version of the TC 2.0, the III version, is getting rave reviews. Some say sharper the the 1.7.
I have the 1.4 II and it's awesome and small.
I kind of want to get a 2.0 III |

| ->> Thanks guys, I have the 1.4 II already, was just hoping that the 2.0 was sharp on the full frame sensors so that I could get a little extra reach. Doesn't really make sense to have the 1.4 and 1.7, so I may just try to grab a 1.7 and sell off the 1.4. |

->> I just received a copy of the new TC-2 version III and it performs amazingly well. I tested it out on the new 70-200 vrII and the results look acceptable at f5.6 and quite good stopped down to f8. Autofocus speed looks to be only slightly affected by the TC. I hear that on primes this TC really excels. I tried and was disappointed with the original TC-20eII so I was pleasantly surprised with the reviews and my results.
I'm always looking to travel light so the TC combined with the 70-200 will be replacing my 300mm on a few assignments. |

| ->> Purchased the Nikkor TC-20E III when it came out in January to use mainly with my Nikkor 200mm f/2. My expectations weren't very high, and I was wowed by the speed and sharpness of this little piece of glass. Was able to us this converter/lens combo on my D3s at our indoor rodeo in February which takes place in a coliseum arena that can be described at best as closet-like. The new TC-20E III ain't your average 2X converter! Think Moose Peterson has a review of it on his site. Remember, it's still a 2X converter... but it's the best one on the market and worth serious consideration. |

->> I've also been using the Nikkor TC-20E III since about January (I have both the 1.4 and 1.7. too). IMHO it is far superior to the 1.7.
Here's a link to a photo in a gallery where most of the shots were from the Nikkor TC-20E III on the 200mm f/2:
