->> Have just bought a new monopod and it's shorter than my old one does anyone know where I can get or have for sale a monopod pad for carrying over my shoulder.

->> They occasionally come up for sale here (CPS members get one when they join, though for the life of me, I can't get mine to fit - the pad is WAY larger than my Manfrotto 'pod).

What I have done, and seen done by many others, is to go to Lowes or Home Depot with your monopod and buy some soft pipe insulation. Then cover it with duct tape or cloth tape.

In reality, even my non-used CPS pad is nothing more than pipe insulation with a nylon cover emblazoned with the CPS logo

->> I picked up the new(ish) AquaTech monopod pad a few weeks ago. Haven't really had a chance to use it much with the 400 running on some sidelines, but it seems like could be a winner. The fabric material doesn't slide right off your shoulder like the plastic Canon ones do.

Here's the link for Adorama:

->> kevin, I agree with dennis on the pad. I would try the home depot that looks to be near where you say you live. that will be much less expensive and basically do the same thing the $35 USD aquatech pad would do. plus two added bonuses are you could custom cut it to fit whatever size you need and if something happens to it or some nitwit pinches it from you, you will only be out a couple of bucks at the most.

->> @Kevin - i had some padding lying around the house, and sticking between the CPS monopod pad and the monopod itself made the pad fit snugly on the monopod. and comfy too!

->> Kevin,

I have a Canon CPS mono pad that I am not using - sold both my 500mm and 400mm - and will sell for a reasonable price. It has the extra pipe padding (which I put in) and fits a Manfrotto monopod. If you are interested, just contact me off line. Thanks.

->> I'd suggest getting the "Frost King Self Seal Rubber Pipe Insulation" at Lowe's. Like the name suggests, it has a soft rubber surface and you won't have to duct tape it. Skip the light grey foam pipe insulation. It tends to dent and has a slicker surface.

If you want one that's photo specific, Aquatech and Lightware both make commercial versions.

->> Actually I just found that these work well and look great - but they are a little long:

http://www.sportsauthority.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2161025&cp=&sr=1...+pad&origkw=barbell+pad&parentPage=search

Only $10.00 can't beat that (ok the pipe insulation is cheaper, but it isn't covered with nylon and the barbell pad has velcro to make it removable.

->> I just bought two of these and love them. NOTHING has ever come close to how comfortable these are running down the sidelines with a 400 f/2.8 bouncing on your shoulder... All my prior monopod covers got circular filed the minute this one came out of the box... It's awesome and no homemade one is going to be better:

Thanks!

That looks like what I've been looking for. My older Gitzo monopod is narrower than every monopod pad I've tried and I end up wrapping electrical tape around them to secure them.

Aquatec here I come...
