->> Alex, I agree it's a pretty interesting story. I think it would have been nice tho if they had put a little effort into it. Some of the interviews they had might be different, I didn't compare the stories side by side. The stories seem very close tho, yet in the time between the first and this one the images have been printed. Makes me wonder what happened with that. Did they encounter any difficulties, find anything else out etc etc.....

Along with the fact that they put story highlights in the margin. wtf?

Some of the comments by people are interesting tho.

->> 1) They might be Adams images. Then again they might not (The Adams Trust says no).

2) $200 million for 65 negs? Don't think so as the real value of an Ansel Adams image is in the print, not the neg. An original print by Adams will set you back way more than a print from that same neg by someone else.

->> This is all very perplexing. One thing that I learned well at the start of my career and coming from Ansel himself was to ALWAYS keep my ©.
He would give me countless of examples of the importance of keeping my own work & protecting them. Something he was great at.
Then reading that his negs were lost then to be found and bought at a garage sale open up a box of questions.

SO who really took those images? The style, composition and eye point to the master himself. But how about an assistant who also decided to trek those same trails and snapped those same images. Or how if about Ansel, who spent a great amount of time teaching, would take a group of students to those same places that he photographed. IN those days any body could had gone there for a week, two or longer and try to imitate the master himself.

How would Ansel or his wife Virginia loose those negs for good?

In the early 1920s Ernest Hemingway first wife Hadley during a train trip bound for Paris or out of Paris lost a suitcase filled with tons of short stories. This was quiet a trauma that stayed with Ernest all his life yet he never re wrote or found any of those pages. But they both knew along with his literary agent and countless of other folks the whole story.

Adams also lost negs due to a fire and even if something would had been found, residual of water could had left a permanent mark on those plates or even ruined them. Or some of the writing found which they say comes from Virginia would had been destroyed or would had had water marks.

Is hard to believe that a serious search didnt occur after that fire without finding these negs. Or that a month or yrs later someone found those negs at that burnt building no knowing that a great photographer had lost negs in there or be curious to commenced inquiring about them? Obviously who over found the cache of negs had to feel that it was important to the point of keeping it for more than 60 yrs. And who is this man/woman or how got to their hands?

A huge mystery it is with lost and lots of questions.

More 2 come

With the amount of time and money that's been invested into this matter over the past few years, I'm convinced an element of fraud must exist. Now I'm just wondering which side is the culprit.

To make this a fake or the same photo, someone would have to fake a glass negative or fake the Earl photo. I would think faking a glass negative and aging it to the point where it would pass muster would be exceptionally difficult. Maybe the Earl photo is the fake?

->> Wow. You can spend up to $7500 on a print of a photo that may or may not have been taken by Ansel Adams but can never be described as having been taken by Ansel Adams and hang it on your wall.

Or for around $30 you can order a beautifully printed poster of one of Ansel Adams' photos that look oh-so-good when framed and hung on the wall. (I have three)
