Canon 1D Mark IV question

| ->> It's time to upgrade my Canon gear and I was wondering if folks have an opinion on the Canon 1D Mark IV. Since it has been out for awhile, what are your real world experiences with this body? |

->> I did not realize how different shooting video was from shooting stills. Not just imagery, but the amount of gear needed to shoot professional quality.
I am extremely happy with the image quality of the IV. If I were to sell mine, it would only be because I shoot stills, not video. I want to be able to shoot quality video, so eventually, I'll start acquiring the gear. |

| ->> I second Chuck's statement. Best camera I've ever used. The files are fantastic. The AF is better than any of my other bodies. |

| ->> Ill be a third on the IV bandwagon.. Ive had mine since early january and it has definately been my workhorse and seen some great use. Still works like a champ and it pairs up nicely with the mkIIn and 40d. Depending on what Glass you have, the move to the mkIV is a smart one. |

| ->> Love it, just wish CPS would actually fix my 300 & 400 instead of sending notes back to "send them in with the body if this fix doesn't work", then I'd love it more because I'd have my main lenses actually work all the time with it. |

| ->> I agree with the consensus. I have shot a lot of lower light (arena football) and I have had no problems with the AF. After struggling with the Mark III for a couple of years, it's nice to be able to rely on the AF again. |

->> I also highly recommend the Mark IV and if you can swing it the new
EF70-200mm F/2.8L IS II on this body is a great combo and worth the upgrade. |

| ->> I'm in the market as well and just saw the Mark IV advertised on 42nd Street Photo, for $4,295, about $700 lower than anywhere else I've seen it. USA Warranty. Seemed too good to be true but I think 42nd Street Photo is pretty legit so I may jump in..... |

->> Mike,
Having worked in a camera store, I know margins on the gear are pretty low... $700 less? You got to be kidding me.. something is not right. If you say "Seemed too good to be true" - it is. Almost every store out there will make more on a filter than a $5,000 camera. |

| ->> mike. patrick could be right about that. a $700 difference almost guarantees something will be missing. and I can tell you now after some VERY bad experiences many years ago you DO NOT want to have problems with any of the NY based camera outfits.....you will be in a world of pain dealing with them if something goes wrong..... |

| ->> Thanks, guys. Has anyone out there had a positive experience with 42nd Street Photo in NYC? It's on 5th and 35th in the City. I've ordered with B&H, Adorama and J&R (all NYC-based) and except for feeling like I'm sitting at the pearly gates in front of God when trying to justify why I'm returning a purchase at B&H for a full refund, I've never ever had a problem with any of them. I think I've heard fine things about 42nd St as well but can't be 100% sure. |

->> Mike,
Look!
http://www.resellerratings.com/seller6510-p1-s2-d1.html#reviews
Most of the "positive reviews" are very short, formulaic, and scream scam/fake.
Classic signs of the upsell/scam- getting a call to confirm, add on, etc. or things like a battery, charger, strap will not be in the box like it should
But hey.. its your money. Just don't come here to complain when you get ripped off.
Good places to buy are the SportsShooter sponsors. |

->> Thanks for all of the good advice, everyone. I decided to check with Canon to see if they are an authorized Canon dealer. Turns out they are not, so who knows what would have shown up in the mail. Guess I'm shelling out a couple more bucks for the real thing.
The power of Sportsshooter on display yet again! |

->> As a still camera: 10/10. The hype is true.
As a video camera: 10/10 for image quality. 2/10 for everything else.
If you plan on doing a lot of simple, quick hit video with it, it's fine (sorta), but anything more polished, and you'll NEED an external sound recorder, plus the usual battery of tripods, stabilization. Plus, the Mini-HDMI port is wonky at best. |

->> Mike,
I bought my first Canon 1D from 42nd Street because I didn't know any better when I first started. Like you, I was attracted to their low price. As others have noted, I ended up paying more than I should have after they charged me for all the other things that routinely come with the package. |

| ->> I looked at some shady sites when seeing the prices and finalized on OneCall.com. It was the cheapest and seemed most legit from everyone I had talked to. Was going to go through a SS sponsor but the price was still lower than them, even with the SS discount, after asking around from those I know who bought already from an SS sponsor. Got everything was supposed to get, believe he asked about an extra battery but told him I already had one and that was it, sale approved in about 2 mins flat and done. |
