| ->> I travel with 4-5 heavy duty 13' light stands only a daily basis. Closed the light stand are about 48" - 52", I have a lightware soft case that most of the stand fits inside all but about 6". I would also like a case that could be carried on the outside on a travel rack. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. |

->> Hi Marvin
I have always thought about (but never have gotten around to)using one of those hard sided travel bags used for golf clubs! They seem to be much less expensive than most photo specific gear bags! I would also think they could be used on a luggage rack pretty easily as well!
Just an idea

->> I bought a soft-shell golf bag travel cover for stands and other equipment a couple of years ago and it was one of the best purchases I've made in quite a while. Excellent padding, plenty of room and they travel well.
The best part is that if you cut an inch or two off of a 53" seamless, it will fit as well. |

| ->> Marvin, check out the SKB case by Freedom at B&H. I have used one for about 5 years now. Yep, it looks like a hard side golf club case but B&H sells it for less than my local golf shops. I have not tried it on a travel rack but it should work. It is checked baggage legal and it rolls. |

->> Have a look at one of these:

It's actually a bow-hunting case; hard-sided with wheels. It holds a ton of stuff. |

->> I also suggest looking at the tuffpak case. I have one and they work really well for traveling with stands and related lighting stuff. They are very durable.
If you fly with it, I would suggest getting one with a built-in lock so you can put a TSA lock on it when you fly, and also have the ability to lock it down if you are working somewhere that things might disappear. |

| ->> That case is slick. How many stands, softboxes etc can you fit in it? |

->> Craig:
Off the top of my head (since I don't have it with me): 2 Matthews Beefy Baby stands with arms and knuckles, 2 standard 8- or 10- foot light stands, 2 or 3 smaller collapsible floor stands, a 6' Elinchrom Octabank (in soft case), medium softbox, 2 umbrellas, roll of black wrap, gel roll, 6x6 collapsed ScrimJim with fabrics, and a 25' extension cord.
Weighs in at about 75 pounds.
Oh, and or some reason the picture on the link I posted is messed up, proportion-wise. Click on it to see a new window with what it really looks like in the correct proportions. |

| ->> The golf cases work good. With alittle searching you can find them on craigslist and at garage sales. |
