OT-Over The Line game

->> I read a post by Brad concerning the webinar from Tim Mantoani, and he mentioned "a mean game of over the line". Coincidentally, a guy in my workshop this past week claimed to have been one of the originators of this game; down in San Diego, I believe. I had never heard of it before last week, so I'm at something of a disadvantage to those of you in-the-know.

Does anyone know how this game originated and where? I'm being told it was about 1966-68 or thereabouts.

->> Over-The Line is a form of softball game that is designed to be played in the confines of a crowded beach.

If not invented by them, it was at least popularized by the "Old Mission Beach Athletic Club" in San Diego.

The annual OMBAC OTL tournament held on Fiesta Island each summer routinely draws hundreds of 3-person teams from all over the country and thousands of spectators.

There's a decidedly ribald atmosphere at this tournament and some of the team names can be R rated and beyond. It's really a good ol' laid back summer beach party.

There has always been the legend that ABC wanted to cover the event on Wide World of Sports provided the organizers cleaned up the team names. OMBAC refused and the event has remained mostly uncovered to this day.

Do a google search on "Over-The-Line" and it's easy to find rules and such.

->> Did the Google search and it's definitely one of the more, uh, interesting forms of softball I have ever seen. Looks like a blast!

->> Oh, Yeah! there is plenty of drinking and debauchery at an OTL event. Miss Emerson is always a big draw, too.
