->> If you ever had the pleasure to be at Yankee Stadium (or a Giants football game for that matter) for roughly the past 50 years, you remember the sound of his voice. When Bernie Williams recorded one of his guitar CD's (he's an excellent guitarist) he played "Take me out to the ballgame) and it started with the Bob Sheppard introduction "#51, Bernie Williams, #51.

->> Truly one of the great voices in the game of baseball and will be missed by all Yankee fans. I'm glad I had the pleasure of hearing Bob Sheppard's voice live at Yankee Stadium a number of times. Rest in peace Mr. Sheppard.

->> I personally recall Mr. Sheppard doing the public address announcements during New York Giants games at the Meadowlands: "Simms' pass, intended for Bavaro..."
I also heard him at Yankee Stadium once or twice, though I don't think I ever heard him saying the words that would live in my memory forever: "Batting third, playing shortstop, Cal Ripken, Jr. Number eight, Ripken, Jr."
He will be missed.

->> Simply the best. H. Darr Beiser does an amazing Bob Sheppard. Ask him to do it next time you see him.
Derek Jeter insisted that a tape of Sheppard announcing him be played before his every at bat after Sheppard retired in 2007. I still get goosebumps when I am at the new Yankee Stadium and I hear the voice of God say, “Now batting, the shortstop, numbah two, Derek Jeter, numbah two.” If you have ever heard this you know exactly what I am talking about.
Man do I wish we had a PA announcer like this at AT&T Park in San Francisco. I am so damned sick of the SCREAMING. Awful. |

->> It's also great that they say the Jeter recording Brad referenced will be used to introduce his at bats at the All-Star game Tuesday as a tribute to Mr. Sheppard.

->> I had never experienced Mr. Shppard's announcing, however some of the shared links. news casts, etc have given me a little bit of what "the expereince" of his announcing was like. He had announced for so many historical players. I loved his voice when announcing..and he made it to age 96 as an announcer and age 99 in life!! What an accomplishment as a person and announcer!

->> I shed a tear when I heard this news. I attended many Yankees games from the mid-80s to present day. Bob Sheppard's voice was as legendary as the stadium itself. When he retired it seemed like something was missing.
