->> Matt-
I got a call from someone at Google. At least, it was someone claiming he was from Google. I had no way of verifying. Same pitch- he offered to enroll me in a program to help move me up to the first page of a certain search result.
Seemed very un-Google-like, so it may have been some third-party SEO company posing as Google employees. I dunno. I said, "Thanks, but no thanks," and that was the end of that. |

->> Yeah... Those guys aren't actually from Google; they're a third party who's conducting some shady stuff. I've had several different companies claiming similar things call me in the past offering anything from horribly-done SEO services to "It's X amount for the first spot in our searches" to "We're looking for someone to highlight on our front page from your area!"
Just another scam. |

Yep .... just like the 5-6 calls I get every week from the "local yellow pages" ... and when I ask them where they are calling from they refuse to tell me .... also I am getting a lot of calls from folks saying they are representing Verizon and want me to change details on my account ... all very nasty business if you ask me and makes those companies they say they are representing look bad ... and it's not the fault of those companies ....
Too bad we have to be on our toes constantly to keep from getting ripped off .... |

->> Actually they MIGHT have been from Google. A friend of mine who runs an manual paper business got a call from a Google representative asking him if he wanted to be in the top results when searching for specific keywords - turned out they were trying to convince him about the adwords beneffits.
Not sure if this was the case for you guys |

->> I just got my call today, a few minutes ago. Fellow threw his name really fast at me from a call that my iPhone says originated in Beaverton, Oregon, (in the 971 area code) and told me he got my name and number off SportsShooter, and there are a "lot of sports photographers being hired off Google now, and would I like to have my photos featured there".
I said that I knew of this attempt to "feature a photographer" from a forum on Sportsshooter and as I was about to further say "No Thank You" he was already hanging up on me.
I wish there WERE a lot of Sports photographers being hired right now, I'm certain there's a bunch of us who could use the work.
Caveat emptor everyone! |

| ->> Funny, I bet is the same guy who called me AGAIN yesterday!! I told him that we had discussed his call all over Sportsshooter and we had figured out that he was a Scammer. I bet this is why he probably hung up on you. He knew his scam has been reported here and he will probably move on to another mark and not bother us much anymore. If anyone else here receives a call from these folks, please post it here. |
