Final Cut / Motion help?
Wesley R. Bush, Photographer

->> I'm working on a glorified Powerpoint in Final Cut where I'm listing more than 100 people with individual slides of 4 layers (background, 2 layers of text, and their photos) per each "slide." Later I'm going to overlay some speakers to coincide with the video timing.
My question is: When I import the pictures and pull them into the timeline, I'm having to individually go in and set the Motion scale and center points. Is there a way I can apply the same settings to each element without having to go in and hand type this? It'll literally save me hours.

->> Yes, right / control click on the first photo in the sequence that you have all dialed in and select "copy". Next, select the rest of the photos in the sequence by dragging the select box around them, right / control click, and select "paste attributes". Pick that attributes that apply (for scaling a photo, probably "basic motion").

->> Got another question if you got it in you.
I'm trying to apply Effects > video transitions > Dissolve > fade in fade out disolve to each of the slides except the background. When I do this, it will only put the transition on the bottom-most element. Right now, I have to apply one, lock the channel, apply it to the next one up, lock that channel, and so on. And I'm doing this to EACH slide, basically 3 elements per slide, about 150 slides.
Surely there is a way I can paste these transitions between each element? Thanks ahead of time for your or anyone else's help. (Back to work on it now.)

->> Make the dissolve you want to use your default dissolve and then lasso all the clips/slides you want the effect applied to and then go to sequence>add video transition, or apple/command t.

->> You want to do an "Overwrite with Transition."

1. Get your transition and drag it to the Favorites folder in the Effects tab
2. Option-click on that transition in the Favorites folder and select "Set Default Transition."
3. Select your target track, e.g. V1, V2 etc. by clicking on the tab to the left of the timeline.
4. Place your playhead at the beginning of where to you want to start the transition
5. Hit the T-key once to get the single right arrow.
6. Click the right arrow near the playhead on the selected track to highlight everything on the track to the right of it.
7. Drag the highlighted items to the Canvas window on the pane that reads "Overwrite with Transition."

Your effects should be applied. Repeat the above steps for the remaining tracks. Make sure the playhead is at the beginning of where you want to start. This way you only do the steps three times instead of 150.

->> It should be "Control-click" and not Option-click. Sorry.
