->> So here's the deal. I want to go to camp.... beer camp that is.
I'm a newbie homebrewer, and it just so happens that Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. has a 2 day beer camp for beer lovers at the brewery in Chico, CA. They are holding a contest to pick winners to attend beer camp.
The only thing contestants have to do is enter a creative project explaining why they should be invited to camp. Video, picture, essay-whatever.
For my first beer I brewed recently, I did a time lapse movie. Now at the time I didn't know about the contest, I just did the time lapse because, well... they're fun!
And now it just so happens that I have a great reason to show off the time lapse. Cause not all camps are created equal. Band camp isn't equal to beer camp. I guess that goes without saying.
Over at http://sierrabeercamp.com/#/view-entries, there are all the entries that people have submitted. Find my entry and click the "like" thumbs up. Mine is the one called "Erik's Brew Day"
I don't know how much the votes matter to being selected but it sure can't hurt. And I think I have a pretty cool video also. There is some competition. There are a couple other cool videos, but I hope I can hold my own.
Voting closes July 9th so it's just a couple days left.
After voting, if you just want to check out the video, you can go over to vimeo.com/hchomebrew, Erik's first Brew to see it. The video there is a little longer, as I had to keep my entry under two minutes, but i had other stuff I wanted to include. It's tough to get under two minutes.
Please go over to Sierra Nevada and vote tho! Hopefully it's interesting enough you want to help out a fellow member.
I don't even need money! When's the last time you heard that? I mean besides that Nigerian spam email that arrived this morning.
I sure would appreciate it. :)

->> Beer is good.
You got my vote. Try to tweet it, but Twitter is probably overloaded due to the fact that Holland won the Semi-final. (Do you know that our very small country makes a lot of beer and off course, we consume it :D) |

| ->> of course if any of you really want to be pro-active you can mail me a check for the paltry amount of $10 US currency and I will BUY some beer and take photos of me drinking it for your viewing pleasure. this donation would NOT be tax deductible nor will it be considered a charitable donation. unlike erik I do need the money, so as Cuba Gooding Jr said, "show me da money". you know you'll feel much better after doing it. |

->> Harrison,
that was an ipa in the vid, I've got a belgian pale I just made and bottled, and I've got a brown I'm about to make. I've only been at it 3 months, my first was a Mr. Beer (bleech) but since then I've progressed pretty well. You're prob all grain? I'm just crawling right now with extract. |

| ->> Chuck, I suggest we split up the country, you take donations from the East coast and I will collect from the West Coast. I don't drink beer that often but I would be willing to try, with the right amount of financial incentive. |

->> Erik - I have done a few all grain batches and frankly, did not find them "that much" better then what you are doing. My brew supply guy now has me doing beers that are maybe half grain with both syrup and powder malts. I find the most satisfaction with simply tweaking the malts, the liquid yeasts, and the hops to come up with variations of beers I like. I just made an IPA meant to mimic the 60-Minute IPA from DogFishHead Brewery and it was fantastic 0 likely the beest homebrew I have ever made.
I have been brewing since the mid 90's and probably get maybe 6 batches done a year. I am kinda lazy and all that cleaning and brewing and bottling and cleanup thwarts more efforts. So I end up going in spurts of several batches close together and then long periods of inactivity. Your post reminds me that I need to brew some more.
Good luck with your brew efforts and your attempt to get to beer camp. Don't be afraid to really experiment with what you are making as that is where the fun lies. And if you ever want to ask questions, feel free to drop me a line. |
