->> Bob Probert is still well regarded here in Hockeytown and will be missed. He was from Windsor, across the river from Detroit, so he was always a local boy, and one member of the draft class (3rd round) including Steve Yzerman (1st round), and also Petr Klima, and Joey Kocur (both 5th) and Stu "the grim reaper" Grimson. Fans loved him due mostly to his pugilism, workmanlike approach, off the ice likeable soft spoken nature, and also being an underdog of sorts. He was a trusted enforcer and good teammate to "The Captain" Steve Yzerman and others, and also became a true All-Star by honing his craft and having scoring skills too. He had demons, overcame them, and was a good family man in the end. He may not have been one of the greatest Red Wings of all time, but endeared himself to fans and teammates alike for being what he needed to be.

->> The Maple Leafs practiced at the rink I worked at during high school. After their practice my coworker and line mate told Tie Domi that Probert said he could wipe you out (he was facing off against Probert later that week). Actually, to be exact he said "Probert says he can kick your ass 9 times out of 10." While Domi was headed to the bus he gave my coworker and I a half smile and a funny look and said "we'll see about that." I was a little nervous even though it was said in jest.

I appreciate the new NHL, but we have to respect the advantage an enforcer can give to a teams moral when a teams chemistry just isn't clicking. Who knows, it could have helped my 6-5 loss in my game earlier tonight...

Probert was an artist, hockey players faces were his canvas.
