Latest cheap steadicams for DSLR video.

->> So, whatcha using these days? I'm in the market for one of them, and unless my paper gets a big bunch of capital, $500 is probably my top end. I ran into a guy using a Glidecam this evening, and it looked like a great rig.

Any recommendations on newer gear out there?

Thx in advance!

->> Until I can get my wife to translate the vimeo video, has anybody else made one of these? Curious if little Manfroto ball head would work instead of the funky contraption he has rigged up (he refers to it in the video).

The gimbals on these seem like they would be smoother than any ball head I've been able to find.

->> Jeff, thanks for the additional links. My wife gave the French video the look-over, and he basically says that the Manfrotto head isn't suitable, and gave some specs on the U-Joint. 4mm to 4mm.

I'm planning on making one of these (with the help of a co-worker) this week. I need a steadicam for a project in a few weeks, and cash is tight.

I'll post how it goes.

->> Jeff, sounds awesome, congrats!

I actually just got my hands on a loaner Merlin Steadicam, which I'm trying to set up. But, I will be making my own rig in a few weeks, so will give you a call if I need pointers.

Cheers,
