I'm in the market for one of them, and unless my paper gets a big bunch of capital, $500 is probably my top end. I ran into a guy using a Glidecam this evening, and it looked like a great rig. My wife gave the French video the look-over, and he basically says that the Manfrotto head isn't suitable, and gave some specs on the U-Joint. 4mm to 4mm. I'm planning on making one of these (with the help of a co-worker) this week. I need a steadicam for a project in a few weeks, and cash is tight.
