->> All they're doing is pulling the shades on the windows. The antenna design was flawed from the minute it was drafted and I predicted it. I can't remember which SS member's facebook I made the prediction in but as soon as Jobs showed that new antenna design I wanted to send him the ARRL antenna cookbook.
The next round of complaints will be that people with cheapo phones will have 5 bars in the same spot that the new iPhone shows 2 or 3......
Best solution is to come up with a way to insulate the antenna from the user's skin. You can't short out an antenna and not expect it to degrade. A silicone case is probably the only hope as I doubt that they are going to take back 2 million phones and retrofit the antenna system. |

| ->> See what happens when you have to be one of the first!! I learned my lesson with the Mark III which by the way thanks to Canon after four visits, 27 different files and a mild threat now works. I'm sitting this one out and I'll wait for the new an improved iPhone 4.2 |

->> "I can't remember which SS member's facebook I made the prediction in but as soon as Jobs showed that new antenna design I wanted to send him the ARRL antenna cookbook." Amen to that! Any "software fix" is only going to put a band-aid on the problem. It's not going to change the laws of physics.
On the humorous side, I heard that the "fix" is going to be when you grip the phone "improperly", a window is going to open that tells the user "Steve says 'Do not hold the phone like that!'"
It's also funny that Apple suddenly is in the market for antenna designers: http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/30/apple-hiring-iphone-antenna-engineers-fo.../ |

| ->> not sure what is worse, apple saying they were stunned (yeah right) or their fix which isn't really a fix, more like taking the blind fold off on just how bad AT&T's network coverage really is. |

->> For those thinking of buying one of the new iphones I just spotted this on Apple's UK store site :
"
iPhone 4 Case Program
If you purchase an iPhone 4 before September 30, 2010, you may be eligible to receive an iPhone 4 Bumper or a select third-party case from Apple at no charge."
Not sure what will happen on September 30th.
A phone update ? |

| ->> Thankfully, Apple automatically refunded me for the bumper without asking or having to do any paperwork on my end. Knock on wood, but I have not had any problems with the 4g so far. The only issue I have is the limit on the data plan, I almost went over in the first month, so I had to change some settings on the phone and use free wifi more often. They have introduced the Microcell Network Extender which I understand has been helpful when needing to use the phone in places where cell service is not very good. Anybody tried that yet? |

->> We put a Microcell in our office. It is a concrete bunker with no windows and very low service. Since the Mcrocell went in a couple of weeks ago we have had no dropped calls. The only problem we had was that the Microcell requires a GPS lock. No windows, no GPS. So we got an external antenna and ran a bunch of coax to the roof. Worked great.
