G11 and Photo Mechanic

->> My wife got me a G11 for my birthday last week and while I dig it, I can't seem to get Photo Mechanic to recognize it. I'm on a Mac G5 running OSX 10.5 with the latest version of PM. It doesn't even show up as a drive on the computer, though LightRoom sees it fine.
I installed the disc that came with it and that browser works fine, though it's no PM. Any suggestions out there?
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, I searched but didn't see anything.

->> Ron,
You might try posting at the Camera Bits forums. They are really responsive there.

I did a quick search on "G11" over there and did not come up with anything. |

->> Second to what Chuck said, it sounds like you are shooting RAW files with the G11.
Try running a folder of files through Adobe DNG Convertor. |

| ->> I've shot RAW in my G11 with no problems at all in PM but I'm shooting RAW + jpeg so maybe that's making a difference. |

| ->> The few times I have had questions about Photo Mechanic I have just called them on the phone. Maybe I have just been lucky, but they always answer, no automated receptionist, no request to leave a voice mail, and they do their best to answer my question. They are some of the most helpful people I have ever dealt with in this business, and I'd bet they could help you with your question. 503-547-2888. |

->> Hey, Ron... Are you on a Mac or a PC? On my mac, I have the same problem, in that when I connect the camera directly to the computer it doesn't show up as a drive (though I can import the photos through ImageCapture just fine). I do, however, have success when I take the card out of the camera and use a card reader. It shows up as a drive on my desktop and I can ingest through PM. You might give that a try.

->> Sounds like you are hooking the camera up directly so use a card reader. It's a bit better for the camera anyway to not use it as a reader.
With Macs most cameras do not mount as a drive, but are recognized by programs such as Image Capture or iPhoto.
I think it's a way to keep people who don't know better from not properly unmounting the drive when unhooking the camera.
PM has no trouble handling Canon RAW files. I shoot RAW only on my G9 and have never had a problem using a card reader. |

| ->> Thanks for your advice, everyone. Looks like I'll have to buy a card reader if I want to use PM. |

| ->> Just to say that I have a G11, shoot RAW + Jpeg, use a card reader on my desktop machine and the built in SD slot on my Macbook Pro and Photo Mechanic works perfectly. I would like to know if anyone makes a Firewire 800 SD card reader so that I have that option... |
