->> Hey everyone, I have an older Mac G4 quick silver desktop I still use and it has been pretty reliable. This morning when I was booting it, I accidently stepped on the power cord and it dislodged from the back of the computer and of course it shut down during the booting process.
Now it won't boot at all. I get a spinning wheel type thingy and it shuts down. I can't even get the CD door open so I can put in the recover disk. Any ideas on what might have occurred? Any way to get the CD to open? Any ideas would be appreciated. Jeff |

| ->> Jeff, is there a small hole on the front of the CD drive? If so, straighten out a paperclip and push it in. That will usually release the door. |

| ->> Hey Alan, couldn't see any hole. But my eyes are so bad there could be one there and I don't see if, even with glasses. |

| ->> Press and hold the mouse button while you power the computer on. This will force the CD tray to open. Next time you boot, hold the "C" key to force it to boot from CD. |

| ->> Mike, great tip, thank you. It worked. I was able to boot off the CD afterwards. Unfortunately,, disk first aid could not repair the HD and it's probably history. It's probably seven or eight years old and has seen major use. Thanks everyone. |

| ->> Replacing the hard drive isn't all that expensive, if that's the issue. I had an older G4 hard drive replaced by Apple for about 350.00. |

You can do it yourself for the cost of the drive (less than $100). It's really easy. Search apple.com for the instructions for your model (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1815), buy the correct drive and do it in about 15 minutes... Tops. |
