| ->> I was talking to a fellow photographer friend last night who happens to be a wedding photographer. He asked me how do you charge for travel time to and from jobs? We aren't talking about jobs around town or across the state we are talking about jobs to another country. He has been asked to do a wedding in another country. His travel time to an international airport is 4 hours, and the flight is about 5 hours. So the question is what do you base your travel fee on? Should you get a full day rate since its 8 hours, should you get half a day rate. We finally came up with an amount that he could live with and we thought was fair. But what are your takes on the matter. |

| ->> Travel time is usually billed at 1/2 of your day rate. But you should bill what you are comfy with. |

->> I'm shooting a wedding in Cabo St. Lucas in a couple weeks. I charged my normal local rates, plus actual travel expenses(air and lodging at a nice all-inclusive resort), plus an extra $500 for travel time.
It would be easy to argue that $500 isn't enough...but I wanted the wedding and it seemed reasonable for both sides. |
