->> As a casual 24-31 mile per day cyclist I have the greatest fear of a crash. A couple weeks ago, going down a hill at about 25 mph, I caught out of my right eye, a beaver running towards my path of travel. The beaver timed his crossing so that my 29er front wheel ran him over dead center.

His girth and momentum lifted my front wheel about 6 inches up and to the left. I managed to regain control of my bike as the beaver waddled off the trail.

I have always wondered what goes through the mind of a cyclist in a peloton during a crash. What is the anatomy of a peloton crash?

This is a great image of a cyclist getting back off the seat and laying on the brakes.

->> Gregory, as a former cyclist you just assume you are going to crash at least once a year. And if you are going down hill at 25 mph, you aren't going fast enough.

Juerg, thanks for the heads up. I don't follow cycling that close anymore, except for July, but that certainly was a nasty one.

->> Yep...if you had been doing 35-45 mph down that hill you wouldn't have hit the animal. The beaver probably thought you were going faster ;)

Have Fun. Ride a Bike.
