->> I have 2 systems (Canon and Nikon). Have 1d mark 1 body with long lens and D700 with no long lens. Do I get newer body for Canon or longer lens for Nikon?
Can't decide, PLease help |

->> I would say stick with whichever system you like better to shoot with.
If you're Canon 1D is indeed the Mark 1, the D700 is a far superior camera and worth the investment into decent glass. |

| ->> I second Nic, the D700 is a great camera, I have used both and would highly recommend the new glass for the Nikon. |

| ->> Agreed. You can probably sell your canon camera and glass to pay for it too. |

->> you have to ask yourself a few things...
do you want to migrate to one system?
does buying new long glass for Nikon duplicate the long glass for Canon?
what needs upgrading the most?
if money is an issue, what would be most economical for you?
it's hard to say based on the details you've given, not knowing what focal length lenses you have, but at a glance, it looks like your Canon body needs upgrading more than anything else.
but you should seriously think about deciding which system you like better and start investing in one system. |

| ->> I'm a Canon user (former Nikon) and I still vote to make the switch to Nikon, for all the reasons stated above AND because working with two systems is a pain. In my experience, you always seem to find yourself wishing the glass worked with the other body. And hard experience also leads me to suggest you spend part of the money from selling the Canon gear on a used D300 or other backup, so if the D700 dies while on a shoot, you don't come away with nothing. |
