Stuff like this:

->> Delane,
I get those too from time to time. The only sense I can make of it is that they often have a URL attached to their username. It might just be another way of getting clicks, albeit an inefficient one. A legitimate person reading your article/comments may click on their username and get jumped to a site that presumably generates someone revenue.
Also, if this URL link gets posted on enough high-traffic blogs, it helps that site generate more search engine traffic.
I could be making this all up but it is the only logic I could find. |

| ->> Those are automatically generated comments inserted by various scripts, and the only reason they are posted is because of the link they come with. Now while most people don't click on them and Google adopted the nofollow atribute (for quite some years now), which disallows its bots to index the promoted website, there are other search engines that are counting those links, thus making the specific website important. |

->> most blogging software uses the "nofollow" attribute for URLs that are included in comments as a way to thwart spammers because having a "followed" link to a bad website can negatively affect SEO.
that aside, the spammers are getting increasingly sophisticated and often, the comments are generalized enough to make you think they are legit. the theory is that some very small percentage of people will actually click the link.
"hey great article. thanks!"
and then you see the link to "fakerolexwatches.com"
so moderate your comments. |
