iPhone 3GS backlight went out. Anyone have experience?

->> I was covering a footrace in the rain, and I had my iPhone very well covered in my camera bag. It never had direct contact with rain, but it was very very humid. Shortly after, the backlight went out - now, I can only see the screen if I hold it in direct sunlight.

Anyone have any recommendations? I already tried a restore. Its been 3-4 days, and it should be dried out by now. I guess I'll try Apple since its only been 4 months since I bought it, maybe there's a warranty.

Thanks,

They just purchased my water damaged iphone for a decent amount of money and now I can upgrade to a new one.

->> Mike,

Take it to an Apple store. It could be totally unrelated to the rain and the backlight simply went out. There is a one-year warranty with the iPhone and the phone will be replaced if there is a mechanical failure.

They will probably look for a water damage strip inside to see if they think the phone was dunked in water. If you can make a good case that it was well protected and you get the right person at the Genius Bar even if the strip is activated they may just replace the phone anyway.

Make sure you do a complete sync with your computer before taking it in. They will give you a new or refurbished unit to replace your phone. They don't repair it in store, they just swap you SIM our and give you a replacement phone you will need to sync with your computer to get all your information back onto the phone.

->> $175 for the 32GB 3Gs. Not bad considering I couldn't get $1 for it outside a repair shop.

->> $175?! Thats great! I think I paid $150 for my 3GS 16GB... wonder what they'd pay.

I just called apple and they want me to go through ATT first, and if that doesn't work they'll see what they can do. Hoping Apple takes care of me.
