->> So, get this.. My sister-in-law works as a hair dresser in West Covina, CA.. Yesterday, these people come in selling framed photos of the Lakers v Boston from the 1980s. She said to them, "Do you have permission to sell these? My sister-in-law is a professional photographer and these better not be her photos." They said their boss gets them from Photo File (8x10 is $5.99). So they buy these photos, frame them and then resell for $45!!
Needless to say, they left her shop in a hurry. |

Well....It does say on their logo that they are "#1 in licensed sports photography" Doesn't that claim make them legit? LOL :o |

->> Photofile is a legitimate Licensee of MLB and NFL products (as well as other sports I'd imagine).
Before people start going on a witch hunt, they should get their facts straight. If you go to any Mall, and go to those shops that sell posters and such of athletes and games, you can see the Photofile and MLB and NFL License stickers on each product. They also provide athletes, teams, leagues the photos for autographs signings and such.
I can't speak for company policies, or how their distributors try to sell the images. But, they pay a lot of money to be a Licensee, and they also pay their photographers fairly.
So, please let the accusations fly...I want to see what sort of things people post.
It used to be this site was used to ask questions and have intelligent discussions, not sling dirt. |

->> Jayne,
Selling one print out of a run of hundreds or more for $5.99--the retail price is not necessarily a bad thing. I agree that someone selling a little league picture for that price is painful but this is mass produced and properly licensed stuff.
I wrote your privately but at the request of Photo File's COO I am going to post this here for you and anyone else who might have any questions.
Hello Jayne,
My name is Bryan Reilly and I’m the COO at Photo File. We’ve been a licensee of all the Professional Sports Leagues (MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA) and the Players Associations for over twenty years. I would like to think that during that time we’ve proven ourselves to be a respectable and highly reputable company to our licensors, our customers and photographers alike. If you have any questions or concerns I would be very happy to speak with you. I can be reached at 914 375-6000 or Breilly@photofile.com
I have worked with Bryan for over 22 years now he is a real stand up guy and Photo File is a real stand up company. |

->> I shoot for PhotoFile on occasion and it's a great company to work with. The way I understand is that they must send their own photographers to these games and the images cannot be sold to other entities for editorial nor commercial purposes. They pay a hefty license fee to the leagues and sales are based on volume. If they can sell 250,000 prints per year, which is purely a conservative and reasonable guess on my part, that's around $1.5 million in revenues.
