Extended Warranty for IPhone

The Apple Care can be worth it if you plan on keeping the phone a couple years (which you will probably do) as you may need a new battery or could have some internal workings go wrong that the Apple Care makes it easy to get fixed (and by fixed they usually just give you a replacement phone so keep your phone synced to a computer so you have a backup to restore from)
The new replacement insurance is interesting and could save you a lot of money, but it's expensive and still has a high deductible. If you are very hard on phones then you may need that, but I think the cost is not worth the risk. |

I have had AppleCare in the past with laptops and they would not replace the battery because it had gone over the allotted cycles of charging and discharging.
But AppleCare isn't bad for other things, but check on the battery issue before fully committing. |

->> I think the iPhone battery is covered but that may be out of bounds. However, I do know folks who have had some screen problems and I've had a few minor things -- nothing more so than any other phone -- that required a phone replacement. Never been a big deal, just make sure my phone is synced, exchange it and then restore the new one with that backup.
As far as some things go (like the laptop battery) lot of it depends on who you get at the Genius Bar and how they feel about giving you a replacement for free or making you pay. |

If you have a battery issue with an iPhone under warranty, they just replace your iPhone with a new one.
It isn't a phone with all the accessories, it comes out of a generic white box with just the iPhone. I have done this a number of times. |

->> I just got an ipod touch for my son at walmart. They have 2yr all peril ext warranty for 20 bucks....done! Too much glass to break. Not sure if they'd do that for iphone, but they might. Its thru a 3rd party insurance of course. Normally i would never buy that sort of thing, but having smashed the glass on my original iphone....and knowing my son...it was a no brainer.

Speaking of batteries---I should have started my thread with this question. Some say they come home and immediately charge up their phone every night. I've been told to do that, but to shut it off so it can reset. Anyone hear of that and is the battery work on memory or do you need to plug it in when it goes low. |
