->> It seems a few of the photos published by Reuters from the Flotilla Fiasco were very selectively cropped prior to publication. The originals were available from the website of the group that sent the flotilla from Turkey. Bloggers found the discrepancy.

| ->> Ouch. Those aren't even crops either... They're as close as you can get to the knives while excluding them... |

->> "I would think the knife a “peace activist” was holding over a wounded Israeli soldier would be part of the news context."
I would have to agree 100% |

->> while the crop was unfortunate...i can see where someone quickly editing away to meet a deadline might have just cropped in closer on the more apparent subject and completely been unaware of the knife...in both shots its easy to miss.
Not standing up for reuters or anything...just that I can see how the crop that was made could easily have been a simple mistake. I didnt see the knife in the ff shot at first either. The crops do improve the shots composition if you disregard that a knife was in the otherwise extraneous part of the image(s) |

->> If these are all unintentional crops, then whoever did that needs to be seriously investigated, at least into their ethics code of journalism. Regardless of deadline, that's not like cropping out an out of focus head or meaningless telephone pole, that's removing something that has direct context over the situation.
I find it really hard to believe that someone who is editing for a news story revolving around potential conflict and violence would omit a weapon like that in an image without some motive. That just seems really irresponsible if it's a true mistake. |
