70-200 loose front barrel

->> I know there have been threads about this in the past but I can't seem to find them so I apologize in advance for resurrecting this topic.
Recently, my Canon 70-200 2.8 IS has been getting a little wiggle in the front section of the lens barrel. The only area that was affected was in front of the focus ring.
Since I had seen this topic before, I remember reading that the screws to tighten this were located underneath the rubber focus ring. I have been able to tighten periodically as the problem presents itself.
Yesterday, I realized that the problem is spreading. Now the entire area containing the focus ring is also loose.
Everything from the toggle switches to the rear element seem fine but the front few inches of the lens have that wiggle.
I know that I will most likely have to send this in for repair at some point but in the mean time, is there an easily accessable screw or set of screws to tighten that section of the lens as well?
Thanks in advance for any advice. |

->> Max,
If you lift up the rubber on the focus ring you'll find a small hole. Rotate the ring around and you will periodically see the screws you need to tighten. I use a screwdriver form an eyeglass repair kit, about $1 at a drug store, to do this and its worked fine. |

->> Adam, Thanks but I don't think that is what I'm looking for. I've tightened those screws and that secures the area that is in front of the focusing ring.
I am now having the problem that the section containing the focusing ring itself is loose. The seam point on the barrel just below the focusing ring and above the toggle switches is loose.
How to I tighten that spot? |

| ->> Oops totally missed that sentence, sorry, guess that's the price of reading this on my phone. Have you tried the screws under the zoom ring and tripod collar? If so I'm outta ideas. |

->> Yea, tried those too. No luck. My worry and inclination is that it is something internal.
Any other thoughts? |

| ->> That has exhausted my knowledge, not that its all that hard to do. Hitting those spots has always cleared up the problem for me. A trip to CPS may be in order. Good luck. |

| ->> Max, PLEASE let me know if you find out how to tighten that part. Mine also is loose AGAIN. I have taken it in for tightening 3 times now. Sort of frustrating because the guy keeps my lens for at least a week. Can't be without it that long again but I also can't afford to have it fall off at a very improper time either. |

| ->> From my experience, the screws you need to tighten ARE internal. |

| ->> I second sending it in... You'll mess with it for months trying this or that when CPS will have it back to you in a couple of days... |

->> Max,
I just had this happen a few months ago, the problem screws are internal as I too checked the ones under the rubber. A 2 day trip to Mid state Camera and all fixed, adjusted and good as new.

->> Max I had same issue few months ago (in thread I posted here were links to view of lens parts, so if you are good enough, you might find those "missing" screws from there). I couldn't find way to do this myself, so it went back to service. I'm sure it's not more then 3 or 4 screws, but it still cost 100eur for them to do this.
If it's just front part, it's no big deal, but I guess screws for next part are hidden somewhere else, not under that rubber. |

->> I second Mark.
I would often tighten mine and a few weeks later it just came loose again, plus it was getting soft
Sent it into CPS and it was about $160. |

->> I had the exact same problem and, like Adam, the focus was getting softer and softer.
After a short visit to CPS, my lens seems as good as new and I haven't had problems since. |

| ->> Send it to Mid State Camera Repair. They are MUCH cheaper than CPS. |
