->> I remember Charlie from my old Missouri days and from Rangers-Royals Spring Training a couple of years ago. I know Charlie to be a decent, humble man, so apologies, my friend, if this embarrasses you.
Anyway, I want to thank you for making those pictures of the oil-covered birds that most of us have no doubt seen by this point.
I cannot imagine how difficult it was to work that scene. Just looking at the photos breaks my heart into a million little pieces.
I think in the months and years to come, when we look back at this whole disaster and take stock, those pictures of yours are going to play a very important role in putting into perspective all that the oil spill means.
We needed to see these images. They hurt, but they're important.
Thank you.

| ->> It's an honor and a continual lesson in photojournalism to have Charlie based in Kansas City, no matter how many days he travels out of town for AP. Very strong images, Charlie. |

| ->> I had the good fortune to meet Charlie while sharing a shuttle bus ride in Whistler during the Winter Olympics. I have been a fan of his work from back in his days in Hays, Kansas. No matter what the situation or location, Charlie always makes memorable images. |
