->> We just wrote a story on some of the permitting requirements of various public lands, including the U.S. Forest Service, wilderness areas and our nearby national parks. Some if it is interesting to say the least.

| ->> Mark - I do have to say I found it funny that, despite the troubling implications contained in the article, what you chose to question was what I meant by "we." |

| ->> The national forests around here are pretty confusing to work around... Especially with all the permitting processes conflicting with resorts on national forest property, etc. It also depends a lot on which ranger you talk to, and what time of year - usually in fire season they just would rather not have the extra paperwork at the local level and tell you to go on your way (as long as it's not more than a couple people). |

->> Bradly,
When there is an anomaly with the sourcing of a story, I like to get that taken care of first.

->> Israel - Are you talking about editorial or commercial work? Regardless, I agree that it sometimes depends on which ranger you talk to; I've had the experience of knowing the regs better than some of the seasonal rangers (we call them 90-day wonders) I've encountered.
I had one seasonal LEO force me to leave the scene of a single-car accident in Yellowstone, even though I had parked well away from the scene and was shooting from a distance. When I asked him why I wasn't allowed to shoot on public land, he replied, "This isn't public land. It's a national park."
Sheesh. |

| ->> Looks to me like the story was written by three guys: Cory Hatch, Jackson Hole, and somebody called Wyo. |
