Possible "killer app" for Photojournalists using iPad

->> First a disclaimer, I don't have an iPad, or even an iPhone for that matter, so I have no firsthand experience with Filterstorm.
I've been following iPad developments hoping for something that will allow captioning, cropping and basic editing on an iPad. It looks like that could be around the corner. Tai Shimizu, the developer of Filterstorm, is tweaking the app to get caption data attached to photos and then ftp the photo straight out of Filterstorm. This has obvious implications for photojournalists and sports shooters on tight deadlines. At this point Filterstorm only works with jpegs.
The filterstorm web site: http://filterstorm.com/features.tai click on the support tab to send an email to Tai. |

| ->> I'd be willing to bet Adobe will soon be updating their iPhone/iPad Photoshop app to include basic iptc or captioning capabilities. It already allows cropping, sharpening and basic toning, and the ability to email or upload photos to an ftp. |

| ->> I've been in email with Tai (developer of filterstorm) about captioning. There's a problem with the iPad/iPhone OS that prevents full captioning of photos. Camera Bits hints at it in their press release. My understanding is that once a photo leaves the app (be it PhotoMechanic or filterstorm or what ever) and enters the iPad it becomes a part of the iPad as it were and the OS strips out the iptc data. The developer of filterstorm is working at a workaround that would allow ftp'ing the photo directly out of filterstorm so the iptc would go out with the photo but once it's saved to iPad it would get stripped out. At least that's my layman's non geek (and I mean that in the best way possible) understanding of it. |

| ->> I just down loaded this app because it was only $1.99 and watched the video and it seems like a very awesome app. I'll work with it and give you my thoughts later. |

->> I have been using Filterstorm quite a bit to play with image editing and just wrote it up today as an iPad App of the Week - http://bit.ly/cP0VUh
On Monday-Tuesday I fly off for my first job where I am leaving the MacBook Pro entirely at home, relying on the iPad only for quick editing on the road. |

->> Firestorm. Has informed me that v1.4 was released an hour or so after my write up as the App of the Week.
Firestorm now allows for embedded captions for images sent via e-mail or ftp. You can also now e-mail or ftp directly from Firestorm. |

| ->> Thanks, Fish. Like many others, I've been waiting for this. Not as quick to do a batch as Photomechanic on a laptop, but it's sure more portable. |
