Trying to get old 300mm f2.8 repaired

->> I have tried searching the message boards to see if I could find an answer to my question but had no luck. I am trying to find somewhere to get my old Canon 300mm f2.8 non-IS lens repaired. The autofocus is really off and I use this lens a lot and really can't afford to have to purchase a new lens just because Canon will no longer repair it. So, does anyone know of someone reputable who does repairs on Canon lenses? Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

->> Hey Crystal - I hope all is well with you. Jim Slosiarek and I have used Midwest Camera Repair (http://www.midwestcamera.com/) in Michigan with good results. They have serviced my 300 a couple of times.

->> crystal, depending on the age of your lens don't be surprised if it can't be repaired. there have been numerous threads here over the years about the "dirty little secret" of these expensive lenses. after a few years both canon and nikon say they don't repair them (no parts, the moon is in the wrong phase, they don't like the way you look, excuses) if it's something minor you might have some luck with the above suggestions...but just don't get your hopes up. good luck.

->> Thanks everyone for the suggestions! Hopefully one of these places will be able to repair it. I think something must just be off inside the lens and hopefully it will not need any parts replaced.

->> Just be glad it's not your USM. When that goes, you have one fancy paper weight. Just speaking from experience. But *knock on wood, let's hope that you don't experience the same.
Seriously, work with Midstate, they treat customers right.
Let us know what happens and what was wrong.
