From the article:
"Last year while training for his STS-131 space shuttle mission, astronaut Alan Poindexter was looking for a different way to document Discovery's next-to-last flight, something that had never been done. So he turned to a couple of friends—Scott Andrews, a photographer and technical advisor to Canon who has shot every shuttle launch but two, and Stan Jirman, a software engineer for Apple. They came up with a winning suggestion: What about a time-lapse video that captured the whole process of getting a shuttle ready for launch?
The result, produced in collaboration with Andrews’ son Philip (a photojournalist himself), is a stunning, one-of-a-kind, four-minute chronicle of Discovery’s trip from the Orbiter Processing Facility to the pad, beginning with the "rollover" to the Vehicle Assembly Building on February 22 and ending with the STS-131 launch on April 5." |

->> Cool.
Very, very cool. Especially the last shot--"Oh, is this what I think it's gonna be...? It IS!!!"
I can only imagine the persistence it took to get permission for some of those camera angles. "You want to mount a WHAT?!? WHERE!!??!!??"
Only one gripe--why no sound throughout most of it? Woulda been a little more engaging with some audio...music, nat sound, whatever. Maybe it was just a technical issue on my part but I checked all the volume settings I could & near as I can tell there was no sound 'till the very end. Eh, I'll just cue up "Thus spoke Zarathustra" on the ol' iTunes the next time I watch it. |

| ->> Mike. Way cool, indeed. I'm with Matt - some audio, music, voiceover or something would have made it more enjoyable |

->> Thanks for the link, Mike.
I was thinking how some of the overhead shots would look with a Tilt/Shift lens. |

->> A very cool package, but as has already been shared, the audio could be better.
But realize, unless one has actually experienced a shuttle launch from within the JSC, there is no way to appreciate the sound of a shuttle launch. Words don't do it justice but AWESOME comes to mind...
Philip, you and your dad done well, as usual. |

->> Just - wow!
Audio wise, I think that James Horner's end credits music from "Apollo 13" would fit well, but getting the permission might be tricky... though perhaps not?
Of course the downside is that the timelapse sequence would have to be re-cut to fit the score. |

->> Awesome time-lapse! Especially after watching all episodes of "When We Left Earth" this past week. Netflix users, watch it online here: http://bit.ly/cj4K43
I want to see a Shuttle launch again....the first and only launch I witnessed was from a cruise boat 40 miles off the florida cost at 2AM when I was 13. The entire ocean was illuminated orange. What a site! |

->> I'm hoping the September launch will be delayed--sorry, but I'm being selfish here.
I'll be in Cocoa Beach the week after the scheduled launch. |
