->> Randy Reid was my first mentor when I graduated from ASU and took me to my first pro sporting event to shoot, a Suns game where, when my leg went to sleep after sitting on it, I kicked it out to readjust and tripped Charles Barkley. He saved my nads from being kicked in by laughing off that I was a newbie. I always kidded him he looked like Peter Parker from the original 1970's Spidey series on TV. I will miss him greatly.

| ->> Thank you for sharing this sad news. I had the pleasure of working with Randy a few years ago when I was an intern at the Republic. He was a great mentor, a terrific teacher and so much fun to converse with. What I will remember most is how he had such a calming presence when I was learning the ropes and making plenty of mistakes. I, too, will miss him. |

->> Wow- I was just visiting some newspaper friends in AZ and did not hear that Randy was ill. Randy was a great inspiration and good friend. He was always there for the photographers at the Republic as a friend and mentor. Since leaving AZ I've often thought of him and his knowledge and leadership.
When I lived in AZ and hiked Camelback Mountain, I would run into him on his second or third run up the mountain for the day. It is hard to imagine him as ill.
One of the great stories about him that I am aware of is this. He was assigned to shoot a football game in the days of film. He spent the entire game talking to people on the sidelines. No one saw him raise his camera. He returned to the paper with his film to be processed where he had two images. Both were of the most important plays of the game and ran in the paper.
Now I don't know the veracity of the story, but from what I know of Randy, it is certainly possible.
Arizona has lost a great documentarian and wonderful person. |

| ->> Was one of the greatest feature photographers ever. He also came up with some other great photos out of everyday situations that others would be amazed at. |
