| ->> That looks like Republic shooter Rob Schumacher to me...ouch. You never want a guy to get hurt like that. The NBA is already very strict on rubber lens hoods and no remotes in the escape lanes, etc etc. That'd be my worst nightmare, guy cranes into me and ends up bloody. |

| ->> As soon as I saw Barbosa crashing into photographers I was wondering who I would recognized. Bert for sure! Could this have been avoided with a lens hood? I mean those edges are sharp and if that dude had a filter, with those serrated edges....man. Safety first for both the players and your gears. Lakers over Celtics in seven. |

->> I was at the game, and Barbosa did not hit Bert's lens! The same is true for Rob Schumacher's lens. Everybody had rubber lens shades on their near court camera lenses and their floor remotes. It does not matter who's equipment he hit, you cannot put rubber over the entire camera!
This was a very unfortunate incident, and I hope there will not be any sever actions taken by the NBA cause of this. The Laker's Team Photographer's are very strict, as they should be, about every photographer having rubber lens shades on all lenses that can have a rubber lens shade threaded onto it. Everything from floor remotes to high post remotes.
Unfortunately, this was just one of those unavoidable incidents. |

Just read the caption:
"LOS ANGELES, CA - MAY 19: Leandro Barbosa (R) of the Phoenix Suns falss on top the photographers hitting his head against the Los Angeles Lakers durting the fourth quarter in Game Two of the Western Conference Finals during the 2010 NBA Playoffs at Staples Center on May 19, 2010 in Los Angeles, California."

Cullen hit it right on. Nothing good will come of this thread so please, for those if us who have to cover the NBA day in and day out, please let this be the last post on this subject. |

I disagree. While the flippant tone of some posts may be regrettable, how is this different than any other newsworthy event?
It happened, it was reported and people commented on it. I'm sorry if it seems inappropriate to continue this but the fact that THIS news happens to involve active members (and founders) of our community should not preclude it from being discussed.

I mean, honestly, you are attacking anyone who has a question about something all of us who cover basketball deal with. players fly out of bounds, they slam into us on the baseline...sometimes they get hurt, often time WE get hurt, and then most of the time NO ONE gets hurt. seriously, you actually think these threads would move the NBA to ban photographers from the baselines? chill dude CHILL!! |
