->> FYI, there are many here who travel internationally, and I dare say many of you don't pay a lot of attention to currency exchange rates, but what with the trouble over the Greek economy, the Euro is way down against the dollar these days, making it more advantageous for Americans to travel to Europe (or, more specifically, the EU; GB excluded). It still not a cheap date, but its better than it's been in a long time and may go lower, so keep an eye on it and if you're on the fence about the expense, this may be the time to pull the trigger. Last year at this time the dollar was $1.37 against the Euro, but in the last week alone it's come down to $1.24.
Details here: http://money.cnn.com/ The Euro quote is located to the right under the blue nav bar. |

->> My sister in law gets married in Ireland next year.... Here's to hoping for continued doom and gloom ;)
$1 pints sound good. Right now I'm not sure that I'll be able to stay more than one night before high tailing back to the US. |

->> Keep in mind the price move is never a straight line. It closed today at $1.2385. As the US economy improves and problems continue in EU countries this medium-term Euro price will continue to feel downward pressure. It'll be interesting to see what happens to EU based airline rates. (Lufthansa, etc.)
Here's various historical charts on the Euro/dollar exchange rates dating back to 1999. Notice that during times of stronger US economic conditions, the Euro slides against the dollar. That trend is repeating itself now. http://tinyurl.com/2e4w3gy |

->> I've been eagerly watching this for a while as I'm planning on going to Oktoberfest.
FWIW if you want a cheap trip to a beautiful country, the Zloty has slipped to 3.3:1. If you go, for a few days just spend it all in Krakow. If you can pad a few extra days, hit up Zakopane as well. My wife and I spent 14 days in the country when it was 3:1 on less than $1400 USD (minus flights and transportation) and we were actually spending money like it was going out of style. |

->> "Zloty has slipped to 3.3:1"
Damn. Back in 1982 the black market rate for dollars was 450 Zlotys per...
I should have bought a few million of them and stuffed them into a mattress. |

Seriously, I mentioned the same thing to my wife the other day, Phil. The Euro has dropped like a rock the past few weeks. At this point, airfares will be the challenge because we're at the point in the year where they are usually the highest - summer. Depending on how full the airplanes are, there may be some opportunities.
FWIW, Last week I booked a flight for 3 of us to St. Thomas on American for next February. Cost was $312 + taxes out of Chicago. There are some opportunities.( There was a cheaper one - $268 + taxes on Continental, but the routing sucked). I've found a place on St. Croix that looks really good.
Jim, I can only hope that the Euro slide makes Paris CHEAP again. Although, if I get the right price on a plane ticket (in other words, not $1000) to Paris, I don't really care. Paris is.... well.. it's Paris and is wonderful no matter what. |

| ->> Came back this week from quick photo trip to Spain. Sold a lens to a colleague and they paid in Euros. Have made many a trip across the pond...and rarely ever convert back to USD upon return home (usually save'em for next trip). Yesterday I converted EUR->USD. Ok, let's see how EUR to USD goes from here... |
